July 07, 2019New Scientists - North PoleAgain I found these articles about Dinosaur books, protest and the North Pole a little light on the science. I think the big news is that we can't build a model of how the earth's magnetic field is generated. The ideas here were so scrambled. July 07, 2019The Problem of Induction_1I am reading this to gain insight into all those people who happily live their lives with the authority of not believing in Science. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
July 07, 2019Philosophers - the overviewI am beginning to look into David Hume and in the context of today he really tackles the issue of non-scientific thinkers throwing their weight around. There is a general inoculation against calling them non-scientific. In fact it is a badge of honor. However DH goes on to dissect non-scientific thinking as in fact sentimental faux thinking. To limber up I go through all the philosophers I have researched. It is rather long recorded in quite cold and wet conditions with the odd bit of the natural bush sound-scape thrown in. July 05, 2019New Scientist - The BrainI suppose I was looking for new information here. The role of astro-cells was interesting but the rest of the article was rather vague. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
July 05, 2019New Scientist - inner planets_I got so little information it was really tough. I did find the news that Mercury is not yet tidally locked to the sun interesting and the fact that it has such a large core. It is also interesting that Venus reflects 70% of its radiation and on that count should be quite cool. The filler article about making a disco ball is actually torture to listen to. July 03, 2019OMP = old man PeteOrtho Meta Para OMP sits in the junk box of Quantum Physics to be uncovered with human stories. I will forward this podcast to the friend of my son who is currently visiting, but at a later time so that the original OMP doesn't cause embarrassment. July 03, 2019Wiring back to the futureQuantum is coming, just wait a bit while I throw together the necessary circuits. I describe coming full circle back to the component wiring of the late 1940's and using a topology to come up with a new direction. July 03, 2019Talking Spooky action at a distance to my sisterI have a go at talking through this idea hated so by Einstein. The story is pretty much standard, in that there is a feeling of puzzlement before we move on to a more profound level. Hope my sister likes it. July 02, 2019Tiny Galaxy begins at GlenbrookThis PP (peripatetic podcast) is in the tradition of ancient Greek philosophers that liked to think on their feet. Intended for Elizabeth and Mark it talks through the ideas of the Glenbrook installation of a world wide education concept. At 1 hour 20 mins it was a good topic for exercise, but probably beyond a reasonable length to listen to.
