You are welcome to listen in as I "explain things scientific". I have had great fun with lasers, robots and absorbing Quantum Physics. Now as a classroom teacher, laid low by heart surgery its time t... more

February 16, 2019Practical Projects Update - 11This is a run down of progress switching to Arduino H bridge technology and angle sensing. I employ fishing tackle to make a new ferrite sample. There are a few random conversations with people I meet during the walk MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
February 14, 2019Chasing the Sun 23-1Really good article on sun dials. It seams obvious that inclining the gomon as it is probably misspell so that it points directly at the sun reduces the noon day sun. I love the fact that the striking of the clock in Julius Caesar is similar to the wrist watch in Ben Hur. I like the fact that rich people had jeweled sun dials and Charles the first gave his sun dial away before he was chopped. February 13, 2019Chasing the Sun 22This looks a navigation with the sun. I can fill in the gaps of the polarizing crystals, and the re-imagnitization of Moby Dick's compass but it would be much better with diagrams to aid understanding. It is interesting that Greenwich was selected after a Washington conference and that Plain sailing refereed to the Plain of a flat map. Also the detail of the Metacor projection and what that means is welcome insight MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
February 12, 2019Chasing the Sun 20Now David looks at the oceans and the tides. Again he is right but if you were not a dedicated scientiest you might miss that tides are the stuff of gravitational gradients. The history stuff linking Darwin and Thomson is second to none. It is really rather poetic that Thomson who was rather rigid in life also had a totally rigid earth. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
February 11, 2019Practical Projects Update - 10The solid state relays have arrived from Thailand of all places. I have the therapy of wiring them up, realizing that they don't work under load, which is a shame as I want them to drive a load. Quickly you see there is no easy symmetry for them to drive a DC load and a look on the internet you require an H bridge which I had wired up many years ago to drive stepper motors. Thus time to order DC motor controllers, this time $18 rather than $8. There is interest from the Universities about me making an automated titration station and I discuss a safe approach to this. February 10, 2019Chasing the Sun 20Another jaw dropping exposition of knowledge by David Cohen. I love the origin of the word 'gas' as ghost. I found the idea that they rioted against Priestly as totally transforming my reading of this scientist. It seems historical fact that he discovered so many (ten) new gases. The idea of a floral clock is just amazing. Flowers opening at the hour. It is great. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
February 09, 2019Chasing the Sun 19A fairly good look at tanning and skin diseases. There was a lot of detail I had not heard before, and some still a little superficial. I like the chapter before with women killing their husbands with arsnic skin whitener that their over enthusasic husbands would kiss off. The treatment of vampires seems sound and it was a surprise to find who had skin diseases like Elton John. February 08, 2019Chasing the Sun 18A journey into sunbathing - nudists, health and snobbery. The author, David Cohen, has a breath taking knowledge that is quite amazing to read. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
February 07, 2019Practical Projects Update - 9This is during a 40 minute morning drive down the mountain from Katomba to Glenbrook. The details of design improvements to the concept prototype are given. The overview of grades of understanding: Newton, Schrodinger, Pauli and Durac . I prefer to use the description of "Matter field" rather than "Wave function" as it better relates to what is directly in front of you rather than the referring to the style of solution that works in an equation. February 07, 2019Chasing the Sun 17This was one of the sadder chapters I have read. The man is obviously a genius in the way he has command of so much information. The description of the world war one naval battle was just gripping for me. The discussion of Las Vegas, verging on the realm of unhinged madness. The analysis of shadows was interesting. I unfortunately was very fatigued. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
