You are welcome to listen in as I "explain things scientific". I have had great fun with lasers, robots and absorbing Quantum Physics. Now as a classroom teacher, laid low by heart surgery its time t... more

February 07, 2019Podcast while drivingDriving off to what is my last hospital exercise rehab. I go through the nitty gritty developments of the Einstein de Haas experiment, which some time later is remarkably advanced and I am into writing a research paper / teaching guide. February 05, 2019Practical Projects Update - 8A podcast while walking "up the mountain" to the next village. In general there is a need to get the look and feel of projects as not claiming to much but honest reflections on Science Teaching. February 04, 2019Chasing the Sun 16Quite a nice read on sun spots. I think you can make some basic arguments about the reduced temperature being from more efficient conversion of energy into heating the Corona rather than the photosphere. Again a little bit of physics would not have hurt here with an explanation that spectral lines split with magnetic field allowing us to measure the strength of magnetic field with a prism or diffraction grating. I am a little disappointed at getting fatigued while podcasting. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
February 02, 2019Chasing the Sun 15This is a history of the discovery of Stellar nuclear fusion. I was really depressed to find that the British scientist Cecilia ? was talked out of her understanding of hydrogen in stars. (I am doing this all to develop memory but it hasn't worked here).... Cecilia Payne I am also a little disappointed that Cepheid stars are not explained as it really glues all this understanding together. I really have to take my hat of to this author who is a professional publisher. He tracks how the publishing decision to produce a soft porn bible complete with Usher's world date from the bible is such a beautiful insight. We have Cambridge University publishing Usher bibles until 1910. How do you get monopoly to print bibles, surely this has to be out of copyright. The soft porn bible now that was something unexpected, MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
January 31, 2019Practical Projects Update - 6Just an update on demonstration projects. The practical side just falls together, the marketing and presentation is another thing. Just found my insanely cheap solid state switch from China is coming in March, surface mail. Just a lot of effort and small gains. January 31, 2019Practical Projects Update - 7Just an update on demonstration projects. This time while driving. All doing well, now integrating a fidget spinner but the microscope going well but really miss my favourite power-supply. January 30, 2019Chasing the Sun 14Some wacky stories about eclipses. A definite change of pace from the intense historical and social soup of ideas at the cross roads. The violinist in Antarctica is on the verge of being out there. I appreciated the story of the 1919 eclipse that built Einstein to super hero status. I am just disturbed by the revelation that Newton also had bending of light it is truly mind jamming. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
January 28, 2019Chasing the Sun 13Some of the finer points of science are wrong. The story of Hershel and music is great. There is no evidence I can find that Kant was also a lens grinder. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
January 27, 2019Chasing the Sun 12We are back into classic territory here. This really adds alot to what I have read. Basically there is some wild stuff about Tyco and Kepler which I now realize has to be totally wrong. I think Bruno is a key figure to understand here, and in depth there was so much going on. The shocking news for me is that Galileo broke of communication with Kepler because he had a religious belief in circles. It totally fits in if you read enough. The inquisition needs really to be studied and taken from the theatrical go to of torture and high drama. The text of the 1979 Galileo inquiry surprisingly does the Church a lot of favours. Kepler using the Pythagorean harmony of the spheres to defend elliptical paths is just simply mind blowing. The discovery of sunspots meaning we have a pimply sun is awesome, something to imagine how these people thought.
