This lecture discusses key ideas from the 20th and 21st century Utilitarian and Effective Altruist philosopher, Peter Singer's book, The Most Good You Can Do: How Effective Altruism Is Changing Ideas About Living Ethically
Specifically it focuses on chapter 7, where Singer discusses the possible motivations for effective altruism. He discusses the viewpoint that what we need is more empathy, distinguishes between emotional and cognitive aspects of empathy, and rejects the suitably of emotional empathy, arguing that proper practical reasoning is what we need in its place.
