This week in Law School Admissions 101 is dedicated to our fellow underrepresented minorities (URM), a law school designation for those who are traditionally excluded from higher education. URMs navigate law school admissions (and the law school experience) with unique challenges to overcome. In this episode, we chat about the notion of code-switching, modifying one's physical characteristics and mannerisms to better suit their environment. What implications does this have for law school admissions, the legal academy, and the legal professions?

In our second episode of our Law School Admissions series, we chat about the diversity statement, an optional essay that encourages prospective students to speak to the unique characteristics and experiences that they will bring to the law school classroom.

What's the difference between a personal statement and diversity statement? Should you write one? We tackle these questions and more, offering concrete strategies for developing a meaningful essay. We also share notes based on our own diversity statements, and provide a helpful way to think about diversity statements regardless of your privileged or underprivileged upbringing.
