This is our Oscar Sprint Profile of Phantom Thread. We fight through the fatigue of Oscar Nominations week. We’re limping and dragging our feet a bit, but we catch our second wind once the Daniel Day Lewis gush-fest begins. For this is allegedly DDL’s last movie as Paul Thomas Anderson writes and directs the man/ the myth / the legend along with Vicky Krieps as Alma and Lesley Manville as Cyril, and our production profile leads with the cast & crew bio/filmographies of those four careers.
Our production notes cling to every single minute detail from the production stories on Phantom Thread like Gene Wilder’s blue blanket in The Producers. It’s a thorough and focused presentation for once, and dare I say, we’re a bit more polished and reserved in our reviews of the production values and performances before and after the spoilers in this episode. Maybe it’s a little lighter on the jokes and schtick and usual nonsense, (we’ll definitely have more of that for ya down the line), but it is a deep dive and full MMO review to enjoy and give a serious listen. We have a lot of scenes and plot details to break down after spoilers. So we hope you get your film review fix here.
We’ll finish our Oscar Sprint Profiles over the next week and a half with The Big Sick, Mudbound, All the Money in the World, and Roman J. Israel Esq. This will complete our reviews of each nominee from the 4 acting categories, best original screenplay, director, and best picture, the big seven categories that we cover. Then we plan to podcast about those 7 categories, devoting a full episode to each. Of course, we’ll sprinkle in some more fun stuff that’ll take you through the Oscar Season and beyond.
