Providing lifesaving treatment is daily business for hospitals. However, the hospital setting is a notorious hectic place with drug shortages and inefficient and labor intensive steps as possible reasons for poorer patient care. Prefilled syringes (PFS) help in accelerate the drug administration process and reduce the medical errors, but more can be gained with equipping the PFS with RFID. Learn at this podcast about the untapped potential to include RFID tags onto PFS.

Pharmaceutical companies are continuously evaluating the efficiency of their filling lines to achieve lower costs, better quality and higher flexibility. Three slightly contradictory goals require a fundamental rethinking of manufacturing processes. This session addresses the core challenges and how ready-to-use (RTU) vials like adaptiQ® from SCHOTT Pharma can help to improve the drug quality and accelerate time-to-market and as a result reduce the Total Cost of Ownership of fill-and-finish processes.

It is crucial to reliably evaluate the effect of bulk fill-and-finish processing on cosmetic as well as on strength-affecting defects. Unfortunately, it requires a high effort to perform a dedicated line trial to assess different vial features, which is of particular interest during product development. Due to this challenge, a laboratory method has been designed in order to generate characteristic fill-and-finish line defects on vials in a reproducible manner.
In this session, the method as well as first results will be presented.

A growing number of drugs like gene therapies, mRNA-, DNA- and viral vector vaccines require storage down to – 80 °C.
At these low temperatures the vial behavior may be impacted in a way that flaws in combination with thermal stresses can lead to an increased risk of breakage although glass is thermally stable. Another question arising is if container closure integrity (CCI) is stable under these changed environmental conditions.
Thorough CCI- and strength tests have been performed after storage at – 80 °C. Learn about the results in this webinar that can help you to understand the fit of vials for deep freezing temperatures.

Launching a drug into a prefilled syringe has many advantages. Prefilled syringes eliminate some of the drug preparation steps and therefore reduce the risk for medical errors and safe valuable time for health care professionals to focus on patients. However, selecting the right prefillable syringe, being a complex drug delivery system, is not an easy task. Knowing available materials, the key differences among them and their implications can help you in making your prefilled syringe decision. Join the webinar to gain more insights.

When filling in aseptic environments, a strict contamination control is indispensable. This requires that all introduced components must be free from contamination. This also applies to the outer packaging of ready-to-use containers, namely tub and Tyvek®, as these components enter the aseptic core before delidding of the tub to take out the primary packaging containers for filling.
As the current market standard secondary packaging cannot assure the sterility of the outside of the tub and Tyvek®, pharma companies rely on cumbersome and expensive surface decontamination. The presentation will give details on improved packaging and machining concepts assuring sterility from end-to-end in a No-Touch-Transfer process.

Due to large, complex and therefore sensitive molecules, biologics pose a challenge to standard drug containment solutions. Their sensitivity towards leachables, the necessity of lyophilization or their tendency to adsorb might require a special inner glass surface quality. Storage at deep cold temperatures pose additional challenges with regard to container closure integrity and strength. Their high value put even more pressure on the reduction of final rejects and on the ability for track-and-trace on unique container level.

Rejects and disruptions during pharmaceutical fill-and-finish operations are a main root cause for inefficient drug manufacturing. This is particularly relevant as the standard bulk filling process typically introduces cosmetic defects, such as scratches or abrasions, to the vials, leading to increased reject rates of the final product or even fatal events like glass breakage. EVERIC® strong & smooth vials have an optimized strength, combined with an outer coating, that reduces the friction and allows the containers to run smoothly through production. In this session, the focus will be on the superior coating process.
