Photography Matters

For anyone who has known me for the past couple of years you’re probably pretty aware of how obsessed I’ve become shooting with Fujifilm Neopan 100 ACROS film. It’s gorgeous stuff. I’ve never loved the look of my photography more than I have since I started shooting with ACROS a couple years ago. This morning a rumor hit the web, saying that based on some document translations, there’s a good chance that as of October, 2018 Fujifilm will officially discontinue this beautiful film in both 35mm and 120 formats. In this episode I share my thoughts on this.

Man, this is a fun camera. I just happened to be watching YouTube one day recently and saw a video on the Olympus OM-1. It caught my attention and long story short, I own one now. I don’t prescribe always buying new gear to get you out of a slump, but this camera and lens together cost less than $200 USD and is very fun to shoot. The image quality really surprised me. Beautiful.

Some photos I’ve take with this fun camera. Very fun.

If you are at all serious about your photography, you need a website. In this episode I go over the reasons why it’s crucial to have your own site; different platforms you can use to build and run your site; things you need to think about when putting your site together, your content; and most of all how to approach your site like it’s your own personal online magazine about what you love and are so passionate about… your photography.

As with any kind of creative artform that you involve yourself in, the last thing you want to do is start thinking during your creative process. By shooting everyday, you’ll be exercising your eye, your vision, your compositional skills to the point where when you do shoot, you act and perform more instintively. That’s the level you want to reach; to be able to create the kind of photos that can only be created with your vision.

Gear. Does it really matter? In one sense, no. But in another sense, yes.
