You know how sometimes people produce work that’s actually designed more to impress their peers rather than accomplish the primary goal. I think this happens in photography sometimes.

Las Vegas, Nevada is, in many ways, a very unique place. That’s actually kind of an understatement. But we’ll leave it at that for now. This is a 24 hour town. During the day it’s bright and bustling with life; people who have come to visit and play. But to me, Vegas is most interesting after the sun goes down. There’s a completely different vibe to the place. It’s darker; it’s sexier and there is definitely more of an element of mystery.…The post INSPIRED – Episode 43 – Don’t Shoot for Other Photographers; Shoot for Your Art appeared first on Photography Matters.
One of my favorite thing in photography and something I will always work to get better at is storytelling. Focal lengths can be powerful tools that can help you tell your stories better. I’ll share my thoughts on what works best for me and why, and on different lengths so you can think about what works best for you. Enjoy.

Portland, Oregon. This is my favorite city I’ve ever lived in. I lived there from fall of ’82 to the fall of ’97. It rained most of the time I was there. Okay, maybe not most of the time… …it rained a lot.But you know what? That shows how cool this town is. In spite o the amount of rain and gloomy overcast days, I stayed for 15 years, and still miss it today.I love the architecture; the people (some of the most creative people I’ve ever…The post Photography Matters Ep 94 – Storytelling in Focal Lengths appeared first on Photography Matters.
Ideas – precious gifts for creatives. They are too valuable to ignore, thinking that you’ll get to it later. Best to write it down while it’s still fresh on your mind.

Passion & Obsession – two of the most important tools in an artists bag. I’ll get asked, from time to time from other photographers something like, “What should I shoot so that I can stand out, build a following, do better on social media, etc…” Today’s conversation revolves around my standard answer to those questions.
Enjoy.

There are many times when I will think to myself, “I believe I was born about 50 years too late.” Don’t get me wrong; it’s not that I don’t appreciate the times that I do live in and the things that exist today that weren’t even thought of back in the mid-twentieth century. But when it comes to music, photography, style, aesthetics and craftsmanship… man, there is something to be said for the way we used to do things. When I refer to…The post Photography Matters Ep 92 – Mood • Feel • Story appeared first on Photography Matters.
Change is inevitable. It’s one thing that we can count on. The good thing is that while sometimes change is uncomfortable, change is often the thing that keeps life (and our photography) interesting. Enjoy

I hope this episode finds everyone healthy and safe. Such a different time right now. I want to talk about that a little bit.
Also, that old conversation regarding 50mm vs 35mm primes, and for the shots I love the most, it usually comes from 50mm. It’s a different look.
Then a couple words about Monopoly. Not the board game, but something a little different. Enjoy

Projects – it’s my favorite form of photography these days. I haven’t been doing much random photography these days. I shoot with the project in mind. But… sometimes that means I’m not shooting as much. I’ll share my thoughts on this stuff, and would look forward to hearing your thoughts as well. Enjoy.
