The pandemic forced the Western Piedmont Symphony to rethink their concert season. They decided to create concerts and events that speak directly to the moment we're living in, including a multimedia project, "2020: A Musical Response," and a roundtable discussion on race in classical music. The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra (CSO) welcomed their new President and CEO, David Fisk, on September 1, 2020. Organist Joby Bell will give the first recital in this year's Organ at Davidson series at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Visual artist Bethany Collins finds words and texts fascinating for what they reveal about us as a people. Her recent creation “Dixie’s Land” is part of Davidson College’s exhibition “From Pandemic to Protests”. “Dixie’s Land” is centered around the many different, often contradictory lyrics which have been used with the tune “Dixie”. Bethany talks about this new work and her creative process.
