Kolbe Verdun, a recent recipient of a Master's Degree from Ole Miss, joins us to talk about his thesis paper from graduate school: Hunting Culture in the South. Each year there are hundreds of injuries due to treestand incidents. We sat down with Executive Director of the Treestand Manufacturers Association, John Louk to discuss safety and prevention. Louk is the founder of Ol' Man Treestands and has been in the business for almost forty years. According to a survey by TMA in 2022, most treestand incidents were due to user neglect. Also discussed on the show is a new duck report from Matt following the winter storm.

In the first episode of 2024, the guys talk about the good and bad from 2023. From Hunter welcoming a newborn into the world, Matt's son killing a big buck, and Ben joining the duck hunting world, 2023 was definitely more good than bad.

The show does open with some somber material, though. Far too many tragic "hunting accidents" have happened this season and the group discusses ways to prevent them from happening, as well as repercussions that should be assessed to those who neglect the responsibilities of using firearms.

Then, the crossbow debate. Likened to men playing women's sports, the group all agree that crossbows should not be used unless you're a certain age, or have a disability.
