LE SUEUR — The Pipestone Area Schools football team will look to enhance its standing before the Section 3AA playoffs begin next week. With a win over Le Sueur-Henderson tonight, PAS head coach Scott Boomgaarden said the Arrows would most likely be the No. 2 or No. 3 seed. A loss could send the Arrows as low as the fourth seed. The first two teams in this seven-team section will receive a first-round bye, so a win tonight is imperative. “They are big and physical, and don’t give up a lot of points,” Boomgaarden said of the Giants. On defense,...

Last year, the Pipestone Area Schools and Southwest Minnesota Christian volleyball teams played a five-set classic. Fast forward to the 2025 encounter, with the Arrows sweeping the Eagles 25-20, 25-11, 25-23. In all fairness, scrappy SWC made PAS work hard to win that third and final set. “I think they were playing with ‘nothing to lose,’” PAS head coach Shelly Hennager said. “They were hitting the floor to get the ball up.” The Eagles closed within one point in the third set as SWC delivered an attack right at PAS senior Taryn Tuinstra — who actually caught the ball. MARSHALL — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team capped a historic week by winning the Jimmy John’s Classic championship. But, Central Minnesota Christian made the Class A fourth-ranked Knights work for it. In the end, RTR downed CMCS in three tough sets by scores of 25-19, 22-25, 15-12 at Marshall High School during a week that saw head coach Daynica Brown surpass the 200-win mark. The Knights improved to 22-5 overall. “It was a great win, and to go 5-0 (in the tournament) is very impressive,” Brown noted. “We enjoyed playing CMCS in the championship. They were very quick and scrappy. Typically,...

LUVERNE — Pipestone Area Schools’ junior runner Amelia Bucher continues to excel, and the Luverne Invitational was no different. Bucher raced in with a sixth-place finish in a competitive field — clocking in at 22:29.74. “Amelia really put herself out there, and ran a solid race,” PAS head cross country coach Mark Moeller explained. “She was within five seconds of her first and second miles. She makes running consistent like that look easy from week to week. She really hasn’t ran a bad race.” Moeller said Bucher is in position to run a personal-best time at some point in the...

LAKE CRYSTAL — With a glass half full mentality, optimism abounds, right? The Pipestone Area football team, despite all of its trials and tribulations, still had a chance to win at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial and spoil the Knights Homecoming Friday, Oct. 3. The Arrows were driving inside the 20-yard line during the fourth quarter, but it stalled out and the Knights secured a Mid-South District, Brown Subdistrict 18-14 victory. PAS dropped to 3-3 while much-improved LCWM now stands at 4-2. The Arrows are preparing for their Homecoming game while the Knights continue their homestand versus Minnesota Valley Lutheran. “We had...

The Pipestone Area Schools football team will look to get back on track with a Friday date against Sibley East. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Paulsen Field. There are two dynamics at play. First, this week marks Homecoming activities. Second, how do you motivate a team when the opposition is winless and hapless? PAS head coach Scott Boomgaarden said the Arrows must avoid distractions this week. “We have to show up ready to play,” Boomgaarden said. “We have to be better in the small details. Boomgaarden also explained the Arrows can’t afford the sheer number of penalties (12...
