  • COLLEGE FOOTBALL: PAS' Gawerecki makes a 'Stout' decision

MENOMONIE, Wis. — Pipestone Area Schools’ offensive lineman Evan Gawerecki had multiple options for playing college football. Gawerecki could have joined older brother, Seth Gawerecki, at Dakota State University in nearby Madison, S.D. But, Evan Gawerecki has chosen to play at the University of Wisconsin-Stout for many reasons. He officially signed in the PAS library Wednesday, Feb. 19. “For me, I really liked the atmosphere there,” Evan stated in an email to the Pipestone County Star. “It just felt like home. It’s a very special feeling to be able to play on the next level.” Wisconsin-Stout is an NCAA Division...

  • HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: PAS boys play Redwood Valley a third time

REDWOOD FALLS — The Pipestone Area Schools boys’ basketball team will get one more crack at Redwood Valley this season. The Arrows and Cardinals square off at 7 p.m. Friday in the opening round of the Section 3AA South subsection tournament. The Arrows also lost to Redwood Valley on Jan. 3 by a score of 73-68. “He’s an incredible shooter who does a great job of getting...

  • HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Fairmont boys escapes from PAS with slim win

This was the kind of game the Pipestone Area Schools’ boys basketball team needed to prepare for the upcoming playoffs. The Arrows had to contend with Fairmont’s tall post players Logan Junkermeier, a 6-foot-9 forward, and 6-foot-8 senior center Oliver Tordsen. For the most part, PAS handled the height difference — but Fairmont still prevailed in this Big South Conference contest, 52-50, at home Tuesday, Feb. 11. “They have size, and they are well-coached,” PAS head coach Michael Slaba said. “I thought our boys battled well inside, and offensively we did a good job.” Fairmont played a myriad of zones,...

  • HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: From the team to the individual section meet

The Pipestone Area Schools’ wrestling team had a specific goal in mind, head coach Paul Young explained. That goal? Reaching the final four in last week’s Minnesota State High School League Section 3A Team Tournament. Mission accomplished. The Arrows, seeded fourth, defeated No. 5 Wabasso in the 3A quarterfinals last Thursday, 45-29, before bowing out to top-ranked Jackson County Central, 53-19, on Saturday at Murray County Central High School in Slayton. “Overall, I was proud of how we wrestled,” Young said. “We set a goal to be in the section’s final four. We were able to take care of business...

Wallace noted the tight-knit community atmosphere gymnastics presents. “There’s a lot of work involved,” Wallace said, which includes tasks such as organizing practices and inspiring young student-athletes to perform at their best — unlocking their true potential.
