  • HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: RV's Means on torrid pace

Redwood Valley senior guard Lukas Means is a dynamic scorer. And that was on prominent display last Friday as the Cardinals downed Pipestone Area Schools, 72-54, in Big South Conference action Friday at PAS Gymnasium. Means, who surpassed 1,000 points in his illustrious career as a junior, paced everyone with 38 points on 14 goals and a spotless 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. He added five 3-pointers, and the Cardinals canned 13 triples in all, which proved to be the difference. “Lukas is a phenomenal player,” PAS head coach Michael Slaba said. “He gets every ounce of ability out of...

  • HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: Hernandez joins Century Club

Pipestone Area Schools’ freshman wrestler Miklo Hernandez said he looked up to Michael Suda when he was younger. Suda, who eventually wrestled at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D., happens to be the Arrows’ all-time leader in wins at 232 from 2013-18. That’s the amazing total that is Hernandez’ goal.    Hernandez is closer after crossing the 100-win plateau during a triangular last Thursday at Luverne. He pinned Marshall’s Colton Chandler at the three-minute mark. Chandler is a student at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. “I was happy and excited,” Hernandez said. “It means a lot to me. One-hundred wins was my goal this...
