EDGERTON — Dynamic Pipestone Area Schools junior combination guard/forward Jadyn Kor made a 3-pointer to cut the Arrow deficit to six points, 57-51. That was with 2:23 remaining in the second half. However, Southwest Minnesota Christian scored seven of the game’s final 10 points as the Eagles defeated the Arrows, 64-54, at home on Thursday, Jan. 23. PAS head coach Grant Everson was optimistic his team could have at least forced overtime, but to no avail. “Absolutely, I thought we did,” Everson said regarding that potential comeback bid. “The girls never gave up, and kept battling, which lead us to...

However, Windom Area responded as Carter Rossow made a corresponding 3-ball on the baseline and Charles Erickson added an insurance free throw as the Eagles defeated the Arrows 73-69 in Big South Conference action at The Nest Tuesday, Jan. 21. The Arrows had chances to score, but the shots didn’t fall. “We were trying to get Makhi a chance at a 3 or something going to the basket,” PAS head coach Michael Slaba explained. PAS showed the...

REDWOOD FALLS — One-tenth of a point. That’s what separated the Pipestone Area Schools gymnasts from Redwood Valley during a Big South Conference meet on Thursday, Jan. 23, at the field house. And the Cardinals nipped the Arrows, 132.4-132.3. “(The meet) made it clear that every tenth counts,” PAS head coach Stacie Wallace commented. “That’s a good wake-up call as we set our sights on sections.” Wallace said the Arrows will look to add difficulty on the uneven parallel bars, and also clean up routines. The coach is hopeful the Arrows have not “hit the ceiling” in that event. “We’re...

ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has issued a report regarding the 2024 deer harvest. The numbers proved to be a “good news, bad news” scenario. Hunters across the state harvested more than 170,000 deer during the year, up seven percent from figures the year before. However, it was still three percent lower than the five-year average. “We still have a long way to go in parts of northern Minnesota,” said Minnesota DNR big game program spokesperson/coordinator Todd Froberg. “But, it seems like we are moving in the right direction.” Weather during peak hunting instances — such...
