It's happened again. Two troopers were wounded and a suspect killed Wednesday in a shootout in Franklin County, PA. One of the wounded officers was in critical condition and the other in serious condition.

A cow on loose on I-79 delayed the morning commute for thousands of drivers in Butler County. It was an unusual scene on I-79 this morning—just after 7 AM, drivers began calling 911 about a cow wandering in the median near mile marker 81. State Police, Cranberry Township officers, and New Sewickley firefighters responded, working for hours to safely corral the animal. State Police confirmed to KDKA Radio that the cow was loaded and taken to a local farm where its being temporarily housed. The incident caused major traffic delays, but luckily, no injuries were reported. Officials say the cow appeared unharmed, but local farmers say it’s not theirs—and so far, no one has claimed it. For now, the big question remains: where did the cow come from?

The President of Allegheny County Council denies there will be a tax increase when the 2026 County budget is released today. Pat Catena says there have been rumors swirling for the past month and a half about a tax hike, which he has repeatedly said would not be the case. Federal cuts and the state budget uncertainty will impact the county's spending plans, but what's been put together is a flat line budget that is consistent with prior years.

A man was killed in an exchange of gunfire with State Police last night in Indiana County. Troopers responding to a reported assault say the man opened fire on them at a home in the 3-thousand block of Dixonville Road in Grant Township around 5 p.m. The man, who has yet to be identified, reportedly started a fire inside his house, then climbed onto the roof and fired the shotgun at responding officers, who fired back, killing the man. The troopers are on administrative duty while the shooting is being investigated.

A Pittsburgh city councilwoman has become the first elected official to ask for a public conversation about making the Pittsburgh Pirates a competitive team again. Theresa Kail-Smith is calling for what's called a "post agenda", a fact-finding meeting before city council, where formal discussions would take place on Bob Nutting and his ownership of the Pirates. Smith tells Marty Griffin on KDKA Radio that nothing has been scheduled yet, but that the Pirates have already reached out, and they're looking to have a conversation sometime next week.

Hundreds of thousands of federal employees could soon go without pay or face potential layoffs in the event of a shutdown. But what about members of Congress? Will they get paid? The answer is yes, but Congressman Chris Deluzio says they shouldn't. On the Big K Morning Show, Deluzio said he's working on a bill to prevent elected officials from getting paid during a government shutdown.

Dozens of workers and supporters rallied with signs, chanting for fair treatment and demanding Starbucks come to the bargaining table. Cas Borowitz, a five-year barista and organizer with Workers United, says the company’s refusal to negotiate is forcing workers to act: "I asked Borowitz how she responds to criticism that the members should 'read the room' amid the company's plan to cut 900 jobs she responds.

We're learning more about Starbucks plan to close almost 190 locations here and around the US. An unofficial list published by USA Today shows a dozen of the closures are in the Pittsburgh area including locations on the South Side, Lawrenceville and the Waterfront. New details are emerging in Wednesday's triple stabbing incident at Carrick High School. According to a criminal complaint, video shows 16 year old Anthony Taulton fighting another student as a teacher tries to intervene. Taulton told police he'd received threats in a group Instagram chat weeks earlier and warned his mother he feared going to school. The morning of the incident, he reportedly took a kitchen knife from home. School officials say Taulton arrived late on Wednesday, entering through the school’s cafeteria entrance and passing through a metal detector. Authorities say he later confronted students from the chat in a hallway, where an argument escalated where he allegedly stabbed three of them. Taulton is charged with three counts of felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of possession of weapons on school property and possession of instruments of a crime in connection with the incident.
