Pittsburgh Steelers Podcast | Steel City Underground

Brian’s back with a video edition of the Steel City Underground Podcast (available to our YouTube subscribers) to continue talking about Steelers training camp.

Brian asks if we should be concerned with Pittsburgh’s depth in the secondary, as well as a surprise “coach” working with a rookie receiver, and some more surprises, both good and bad, which occurred over the weekend.

Note: due to the Steelers schedule for preseason and training camps, our shows will be less regimented than our usual Monday/Friday slate in order to cover more details. The good news: that means more bonus content for our listeners!

A new arrival to the SCU team is today’s guest host, as Zach Metkler joins Joe Kuzma to talk about all of the buzz following a full week from the start of Steelers training camp.

Zach is especially high on one cornerback, who could turn out to be a sleeper for the Steelers, while Joe is impressed with a couple of players on the offensive side of the ball.

Both hosts also share their thoughts on injuries, both internal and around the league; and why some fans have cause for concern but a division foe already appears to be declining this offseason.

Joe and Brian are back and bring good news: training camp is finally here!

That still doesn’t give us a whole lot to talk about, at least until players put on their pads (or play in shorts again). However, we can speculate on which players could standout following an excellent camp.

Today we choose sleepers at each major position for the Pittsburgh Steelers. (Sorry kickers and punters, you don’t get any love today.) A few are names you know, and a few are names you may have forgotten about this offseason.

Bell, Conner, and D-Will oh my!

Despite going over the running back depth chart in a recent episode, there’s a ton of news to cover at the position, including the failure to secure a long-term deal with Le’Veon Bell, DeAngelo William’s demands to play for all but four teams (later reduced to three) and James Conner’s jersey outselling all but one player in the entire league!

Expect to hear both sides of the Bell story, what teams Williams could (or should) play for, and why fans should pump the brakes on their high expectations from their University of Pittsburgh hometown hero.

Brian is back to talk about the “do or die” scenarios surrounding the imminent deadline for the Steelers to do a deal with Le’Veon Bell before the 2017 season.

Needless to say, we are on pins and needles to see if something happens, but is it really that bad if it does?

Or is it that bad if it does not?

Whenever someone brings up Landry Jones and Joshua Dobbs, there’s a heated discussion, no matter where it may take place! Today, Joe and Brian bring up the backup situation, but with a twist: have the quarterbacks behind Ben Roethlisberger ever been that great?

Six different QBs have thrown passes in Pittsburgh since Big Ben arrived in 2004 (seven if you count a handful of throws by the fragile Bruce Gradkowski). Of those six, who has had the most success?

The answer may surprise you!
