Pittsburgh Steelers Podcast | Steel City Underground

It’s been a crazy month Steelers Nation. From Ben Roethlisberger’s farewell at Heinz Field, to the Steelers making the postseason – and exiting early – it’s been a rollercoaster ride for fans.

The thrills continue as every single person or entity with an opinion has speculated about Big Ben’s successor, including players who aren’t even available as free agents.

Joe covers who is available, who could be available, and who actually is available – while asking the question, “Is this player an upgrade over the ones already here?”

Joe and Brian are back after the dust has settled from the entire NFL Super Wild Card Weekend, as well as any fallout from Mike Tomlin’s Tuesday press conference.

The duo talks about some of the high expectations fans had at Kansas City and why that was unrealistic.

They also take a top-to-bottom overview on how this season panned out and explain how this was far from a failure for a team that could’ve been much worse.

The latest SCU Podcast breaks down the unlikely 7th seeded Pittsburgh Steelers traveling back to Kansas City to face a Chiefs team that walloped them back in Week 16 of the regular season.

Could things be different this time around?

Joe Kuzma is joined by former Chiefs OL Joe Valerio, who has some stories of legend that correlate to the present day – including some insight into Sunday night’s game from the opponent’s perspective. The former Joe also has a dubious statistical distinction that some long-time Steelers fans who follow football in general may recall as well.

Tune in for this unique insight into both the past and present of the NFL playoffs.

The final game of the NFL’s newly expanded 17-game regular season took hold with a primetime showcase in Las Vegas between two division rivals: and touted as a “win and in” scenario that almost ended up with a “kiss your sister” dynamic instead.

Sunday Night Football featured a contest between the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers which nearly witnessed a miracle that would have shuffled the playoff picture, ended the career of a future Hall of Famer, and sent sports-betting sites crashing into the red.

All it took was a series of improbable events, followed by one of the most nail-biting NFL games in recent memory.

Are they playing for a tie on purpose?

This week’s WTF podcast talks about the integrity of winning, the hint of collusion for a tie, and the bone-head coaching decisions of one LA team, which seem to be a WTF topic every week. Hear what could have been a crazy ending to a story unfinished in Pittsburgh.

In the next-to-last week of the 2021 regular season, Steelers Nation shed tears alongside Ben Roethlisberger during his potentially final game at Heinz Field.

Antonio Brown once again made headlines – and not for his play, rather, lack thereof. And the Bengals took care of business at home against the Chiefs to win the AFC North.

However, Week 17 was all about Big Ben and Pittsburgh’s outside shot of making the playoffs. Tune in as Terry Fletcher covers every corner with this week’s WTF moments.

Joe and Brian are back. This time the hosts are doubling up on a short week, covering the aftermath of the Steelers big win – and Ben Roethlisberger’s send-off – against the Browns, as well as looking ahead to Sunday’s matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Steelers aren’t out of playoff contention yet, but they do need a miracle to help them get into the postseason.

Plus, T.J. Watt’s overwhelming claim for this year’s Defensive Player of the Year and other tidbits.

The sense of reality and urgency seems to be lost on teams that have the tools to win, but continue to live in an alternate reality once they get into scoring position. The reality of Week 16 was lost on many teams trying to knock on the playoff door.

Listen as Terry Fletcher explains who is, and isn’t, living in a fantasy land.

Joe and Brian are exhausted. In fact, they’re “too old for this stuff!” (To quote a famous movie line!)

Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert, the Steelers offensive line, Adrian Klemm and yes, even a preview of Monday Night’s upcoming game against the Cleveland Browns are jam-packed into this special year-end episode.

There’s a lot to digest here, including what could be Ben Roethlisberger’s final home game at Heinz Field, as well as the Steelers playoff hopes resting on what has become a must-win in Week 17.

Tune in for the insights but stay for the shenanigans!

**** FIXED AUDIO ***

It wasn’t a Hallmark Movie ending for Pittsburgh in Kansas City, but Joe and Brian didn’t expect much to begin with as the Steelers fell to the Chiefs 36-10.

However, that doesn’t mean the game wasn’t even more disappointing – but is it an indication that the Steelers season is over?

The hosts explore this topic and a plethora of others (including Brian’s impending house arrest) and ask some questions about the immediate and long-term future of the team.
