Pittsburgh Steelers Podcast | Steel City Underground

Joe and Brian dive into the thick of mock draft season as we’re two weeks away from the 2021 NFL Draft.

Some of this year’s mocks can be all over the place – are some prospects truly worthy of a first round selection?

Without an NFL Combine the boards are a mixed bunch, yet, some of the Steelers recent moves hint at decisions they will not be making in the draft – which also makes the mocks more fun to mock because they’re clearly wrong!

See which ones the host pick on today in their first round of “mocking the mock drafts”.

The ongoing NFL Draft debate continues as Joe Kuzma flies solo on the latest edition of the Steel City Underground Podcast to make an educated guess as to whether or not the Steelers can afford to wait on taking one of the top three running backs in the draft.

Last year’s draft saw five running backs selected through pick 55; which is where Pittsburgh picks in the second round.

Joe identifies a few teams that could take a stab at the position and others who should be eliminated from the process in figuring out if the Steelers can afford to gamble without taking a rusher with their first-round selection.

It’s the season and the time, and once more Brian E. Roach loses his mind and goes completely insane in the latest edition of SCU’s Mock Draft Insanity.

Joining the “Mad Mocker” is Zach “The Professor of Football” Metkler, and special guest, LeeAnn Lowman (who is Pittsburgh royalty) as the trio explore options for the Steelers in the most far-fetched fantasy of a mock draft ever.

Joe and Brian address the Steelers moves, and lack thereof, in part two of a two-part NFL free agency special on the SCU Podcast.

While Pittsburgh was unable to retain some key players, there are other shrewd moves which they did make to help ensure the team isn’t in a total rebuilding mode.

The duo also explains how the players they brought back factor into the future and why it’s not all doom and gloom in the Steel City. Plus, there’s an outside chance that one of the Steelers’ less likely to sign unrestricted free agents does, in fact, return for 2021.

Joe and Brian are back for a two-part NFL free agency special, starting with explaining how the Pittsburgh Steelers operate during this time of the year, as well as why they are perceived to have any salary cap issues.

Good teams are bound to lose great players when they draft and perform well. The Steelers found themselves with a number of players in such a situation where they can only retain some of them, at a time where the rest of the league faces a cap that was lower than anticipated due to a pandemic year.

The duo talks about this and whether or not Ben Roethlisberger’s contract is “holding the team” back!

Joe and Brian reconvene to continue their thoughts on what the Pittsburgh Steelers could do during free agency.

While there are a number of their own in-house candidates to potentially re-sign, the Steelers could seek to bring in a few players from outside of the organization where there are obvious needs. Their salary cap situation, however, may preclude them from doing so!

Who do the hosts think the team will target and how can they make some of these deals happen?
