Joe flies solo on this edition of the Steel City Underground Podcast to discuss the flavor of the week making rounds on Steelers social media: the amount of times Ben Roethlisberger was in shotgun formation.

Believe it or not, the numbers lend to a trend from around the league that isn’t too unusual. However, the downfall of the Steelers offense in 2020 shouldn’t be pinpointed to to a single formation, or even a look (such as “jet motion”) rather some predictable play calling that’s backed up by analytics, but also seen with the naked eye.

Joe and Brian are back earlier in the week than usual as news dropped all over the Internet that Ben Roethlisberger will, in fact, be returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2021 season.

Touched upon somewhat in the last episode, the hosts expand on their previous thoughts about Big Ben under center for another season, his salary cap implications, as well as what the quarterback depth chart may look like heading into this year – and why any other alternative other than Roethlisberger would be a silly look for the Steelers.

Once the Super Bowl has passed and there’s nothing to look forward to until the official start of the next league year, speculation and stupid stories run rampant all over the Internet.

From Ben Roethlisberger’s demise to J.J. Watt joining his brothers in Pittsburgh, no topic appears to be off limits with anyone. The sources range from fans to bloggers and even national media, which makes it difficult to separate fact from fiction.

On this episode, Joe and Noah attempt to talk some sense into Steelers Nation and bring them down from that ledge they’re standing on!

It’s that time of year again – Brian is watching “Draft Day” and plotting evil genius plans for Draft Day Domination! Yes, it’s Mock Draft Insanity!

The point is – it’s all just guesses. So, why not make it as over the top as possible, and Brian may have outdone himself this time around.

The Professor of Football, Zach Metkler joins the show to try and keep Brian under control… because, before you know it, Brian has traded THE ENTIRE 2022 Draft away!

What does this nut job have up his sleeve?  And how will it all turn out?

NOTICE: It’s all a joke folks – nobody really thinks this could happen!  But… what if?

Joe is joined by Noah Freeman who makes his long-awaited return to the show as the duo discuss a slew of topics ranging from the Super Bowl to postseason awards.

There’s a lot of chatter about how to “fix” the Pittsburgh Steelers following Sunday’s big game. Some fans are convinced that the Steelers may have been better off with Bruce Arians, or that Antonio Brown is somehow redeemed. They also fail to correlate how the Chiefs’ loss was predicated on similar issues the Steelers had in their Wild Card exit.

The hosts also talk about two overdue Hall of Fame nods for former Steelers plus their thoughts on T.J. Watt being “snubbed” for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Brian brings up topics such as “He who shall not be named” and other painful memories from that period of Pittsburgh Steelers history. He and Levon also discuss the Super Bowl as well as Kirkland’s Steelers career, and what he thinks the Steelers need to do to get back on track for next season.
