Liam Wong is a name you have most likely heard of if you are interested in Photography. If not, you will have seen his work if you have ever looked for references of atmospheric neon at night on the streets of Tokyo. But, more than that, Liam captures atmosphere almost like a time capsule. You can palpably feel the mood of the scenes in the photos and the way they are colour graded are something you wish would be in a video game.
In fact, he is a published author with Kickstarter's best-selling book of all time, called TO:KY:OO. The book includes words and contributions from Metal Gear Solid's Hideo Kojima and Bladerunner concept artist Syd Mead. His second published book, After Dark, was also a huge success.
But have you ever wondered about the background of the award-winning photographer? Liam, originally from Scotland, actually started his journey in games! Working in UI all the way up to Creative Director at Ubisoft Montreal, and then Visual Director at the new Japanese studio Unseen founded by Ikumi Nakamura.
In this episode we jump into talking about his career, moving countries, his inspirations and hearing some amazing advice. It’s really rare to find someone who is incredibly humble and talented at this level, so to hear this kind of insight is invaluable.
