During the Passover meal, Jesus reveals that one of His disciples will betray Him, leading the others to examine their own hearts. Despite Jesus' offer of grace and an opportunity for repentance, Judas chooses to reject Him, sealing his eternal fate. We, too, are offered the chance to turn to Jesus, to repent and be saved.

Hell is real. Hell is painful. Hell is a place of endless torment. Hell is avoidable. The rich man found himself in hell begging for even a drop of water to cool his tongue but there was no relief.

Hell is not a party place where people can spend eternity with their friends doing whatever they want. It is a place of eternal suffering created for the devil and his angels but now is also the eternal destination of those that reject Jesus as their Savior.

People often think the default destination after death is heaven but unfortunately this is not the case. We are already condemned to hell because of our sin, but Jesus made a way to escape that judgment and have a home in heaven instead.

In Mark 14:12-16, Jesus prepares for the Passover with His disciples, knowing His betrayal is near. Jesus gives Peter and John somewhat vague instructions to prepare for the Passover and they trust His plan without knowing all the details. The Passover lamb they prepare points to Jesus Himself—the sinless Lamb of God, whose shed blood provides salvation to those who trust Him personally as Savior. This powerful moment invites us to reflect on our faith: Do we trust God’s plan, even when it’s unclear? Motive matters. We can try to understand a person's motives by what they do but even then we cannot know for certain. There are only two that can really know the motives of someone: God and self. And sometimes, we may not even understand our own motives. But God always accurately assesses the motive of every paerson. What is your motive for the things you do? To give or take? To love or hate? To be devoted or deceitful?

Looking for Jesus

In Luke 2 we see two people who were looking for the coming of the promised Messiah. Simeon and Anna had spent their lives looking for the Lord to come. They watched and faithfully served God with the expectation that the Messiah would soon be coming. Likewise, today we ought to be optimistically anticipating Jesus' second coming.

Instead we can remember the first Christmas was full of what probably seemed like craziness and busyness and like Mary stop to ponder all the things God has done and is doing. This season, take time to reflect on who God is and what he is doing. In this we will find hope, joy, and peace.
