  • Surviving Domestic Abuse

Domestic Abuse does not discriminate on what country, ethnic background, religious belief or gender you are.

It’s a topic that is universal.

It was an honour and a privilege to speak with Ashleigh Turner @empowerwithash
All the way from Australia šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ.
This empowered women has gone from survivor to thriver.

Her Podcast (Empower with Ash) is a must listen to.

This is a 58 second snippet of an hours conversation.
The full length Podcast episode will be dropping on Wednesday and the YouTube video will be live on Sunday 25th.

Too add further context to the magnitude of this global problem, below are some statistics taken from the ā€˜WHO’ (World Health Organisation)

    * Violence against women – particularly intimate partner violence and sexual violence – is a major public health problem and a violation of women's human rights.
    * Estimates published by WHO indicate that globally about 1 in 3 (30%) of women worldwide have been subjected to either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime.
    * Violence against women is preventable. The health sector has an important role to play to provide comprehensive health care to women subjected to violence, and as an entry point for referring women to other support services they may need.

  • Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are responsible for more loss of life than any other mental health condition.

•Between 1.25 and 3.4 million people in the UK are affected by an eating disorder.

With most eating disorders developing during adolescence, there are cases of eating disorders developing in children as young as 6.

My amazing guest @thinkingoutloudwithshan knows the affects of eating disorders first hand.

Despite this happening in her early years, she has gone on to turn her life around. She is part of our amazing NHS service and is a YouTube vlogger and mental health campaigner.

This amazing bundle of energy has a heart of gold šŸ’›
    This is a brilliant episode in which we talk all things from;

    • Identifying when an eating disorder starts.
    • Telling your family about the disorder.Ā
    • The pressures of social media on our youth.
    • Tactics to help overcome the disorderĀ
    • Working in the NHS during the COVID 19 pandemic
    • How to stay positive and calm during the struggles of the pandemic.

  • Sobriety Coach - Dave Wilson

    Alcohol.

We have almost all tried it. We have almost all been drunk at some stage in our life.

What if I asked you to drink 15 pints of Stella during the day, then polish off 1 litre of vodka at night?
What condition would you be in?
Now imagine doing that for 4 days on the bounce...Ā

This is exactly the position that Dave Wilson found himself in at his lowest point.

Dave, has been sober now for over 2 years and is now a sobriety coach.

In this episode we talk all things booze related.
From triggers through to upbringing and our relationships with alcohol.

One of the loveliest men I have had the privilege of speaking with.

  • Haircuts 4 Homeless

HOMELESS PEOPLE HAVE MANY CHALLENGES TO FACE, ONE OF THEM OFTEN BEING A LOW SELF-ESTEEM.Ā

Haircuts4Homeless is a registered charity set up by veteran hairdresser Stewart Roberts. Inspired by the actions of hairdressers in various parts of the world cutting hair for the homeless, Stewart set out not only to do this his self but to build a whole community of skilled hairdresser volunteers who give their time free of charge to give haircuts for homeless people.

Homeless people have many challenges to face, one of them often being a low self-esteem. A haircut can have a great effect on someone, giving them a real boost. It’s often way down on aĀ

homeless persons priorities with what lack of money so the service proves to be very popular.Ā

One of people’s basic rights is for them to feel good about themselves and this service can give that to people.

Hairdressers have a known empathy and are great communicators. The industry is known for its generosity and willingness to help people therefore there are many that would willingly give some of their time and expertise. We started the project in Havering and, with the right amount of support, plan to roll it out across the UK & beyond. There is something very personal about cutting someone’s hair that can be both enjoyable and therapeutic which is something that many homeless people rarely get.

It may be "just a haircut", but it's the kindness shown that makes a homeless person know that people really care.
