Planet FPL - The Fantasy Football Podcast

West Ham fan Chris Stone joins James to conclude Day 1 of Correspondent Week by discussing all things on The Hammers including their FPL assets.

Will new manager Julen Lopetegui bring back a return to 'The West Ham Way' and push the club back towards challenging for European qualification?

The club is making moves in the transfer market too, there's discussion on those already signed like Crysencio Summerville and those set to follow such as Niclas Füllkrug.

Jarrod Bowen (7.5) and Mohammed Kudus (6.5) are assessed and compared, there's the latest on Lucas Paqueta's off field situation and why he may have a deeper role in the team this season.

And should we expect more from defensive assets such as Alphonse Areola and is he the best of The Hammers defensive assets?

Brentford fan Tom Medd joins James to discuss The Bees ahead of the new season including whether we should expect more from a club who suffered badly with injuries. But the injuries look like they may persist with new signing Igor Thiago out injured until the winter and with major problems persisting at full-back.

Will Ivan Toney stay or go? That's the major headline into The Bees season but if he stays will he even start in Gameweek 1?

Bryan Mbeumo is currently an attractive differential in FPL, but FPL managers may be put off by Brentford's three challenging away trips inside the first five gameweeks; and Tom wants to make the case for a different attacker from the club.

And Mark Flekken is currently the most owned 4.5 keeper but could his position in the team be under threat and do any of the 4.5 defenders at the club offer a better or safer alternative?

It's a Correspondent Week debut for Ipswich Town and Paul Gaught-Allen, who joins James to discuss everything about last season's Championship runners-up, including Kieran McKenna's crucial decision to stay as manager and whether surviving this season is a realistic aim following back to back promotions.

Paul details what we can expect from McKenna tactically and that includes an advanced role for 4.5 left-back Leif Davis who notched a record number of Championship assists for a defender last season. But with every other Town defender priced at 4.0 is Davis worth the extra? And who's best from those 4.0s?

Omari Hutchinson has signed on a permanent deal from Chelsea and has interest at 5.5, but there may be other attacking talents that appeal more from within the club.

There's an outline of the current anticipated starting eleven and where the club is likely to invest further in the team and squad plus there's discussion on FPL's two most expensive players, Mo Salah and Erling Haaland, who are set to play The Tractor Boys in the first two Gameweeks.

On the opener of Planet FPL Correspondent Week James is joined by Arsenal fan Adam Pritchard to discuss all things on The Gunners and their FPL assets ahead of a season where there is now more than just hope of them finishing above Manchester City and winning the title and it's not just Arsenal fans who think they can do it.

But the start is tough, with trips to Villa, rivals Tottenham and Champions City all inside the first 5 so how much investment should FPL managers put into them?

There's discussion on a preference between Gabriel and William Saliba, if Ben White is worth the extra, how Riccardo Calafiori and a returning Jurrien Timber may fit in and if David Raya actually offers a cheaper route into covering their defence that should be considered.

Conversation on the attackers includes if Bukayo Saka is expected to start in GW1, if Martin Odegaard is worth the 1.5 saving, Kai Havertz's appeal and threats to his place as the central forward, Gabriel Martinelli's underwhelming 2023/24 and potential new incomings.

A week on from Gareth Southgate's decision to stand down as England manager, Suj and James reflect on Southgate's tenure, discuss what might be next with the next manager and ask what England fans want England to be.

There's praise for what Southgate has achieved both on and (especially) off the pitch, including how he united the team; but there's also acknowledgement that the time was probably right for him to step aside.

But will what's next be better? Who should get the job? And there's details on The FA's job remit of what they are looking for from applicants.

And what do fans and the media want from England? Is it more attractive football and fluid tactics or ultimately is the result at major tournaments what still matters most?

Suj and James take a deep dive into the fixture schedule in the first half of the season looking at opportunities to buy and sell FPL assets where fixture swings occur... and spoiler in many cases it's difficult to find these so-called swings.

There's discussion on when rolling could be beneficial and James details rolling 5 week periods that show periods when managers may want to use their first Wildcard and there is one particularly naughty period that will be difficult to navigate.

And there's listener questions covered too.
