Planet FPL - The Fantasy Football Podcast

With Fantasy Premier League open and all the prices available for the 2024/25 season Suj and James kick off their coverage of Season 8 of Planet FPL by assessing the players of interest from all 20 clubs running through from Arsenal to Wolves.

There's discussion on unavoidable premiums, the mid price players who really interest and budget enablers are identified from both well and unfancied teams.

Plus, why tough fixtures will push many away from certain clubs, why some pricing points towards solution players, James gets excited about one particular young prospect and lots more...

With the launch of Fantasy Premier League 2024/25 anticipated today, Suj and James react to yesterday's news of changes to gameplay for the season ahead including the ability to store up to 5 transfers.

But who does it benefit most? Will fixture planners like James benefit from the change? Or will Suj be able to forget deadlines for a month with little consequence?

Plus, ultimately is the change good for the game and what are the impacts on fellow Chip usage for things like the Free Hit and Wildcards?

Clayton and James discuss what we know so far as we await the imminent official launch of Fantasy Premier League 2024/25.

Many player prices are already known; what's the thoughts on Erling Haaland being priced at £15.0m? It's the highest ever price for an FPL asset. Cole Palmer has been given the highest ever increase in price coming in at 10.5 but will remain a popular option.

There's a run through of the player prices known so far, running from the premiums down to the budget enablers, discussing the players that stand out at each price point, which includes the one player James is very confident that he'll start with subject to fitness.

There's notes on some early fixture swings and caution is given on those returning from the European Championship.

Suj and James reflect on last night's European Championship Final that ended in a deserved triumph for Spain and defeat for England.

The inquest now begins for England after the 'reality check' of being beaten by a team that was more incisive, kept the ball better and had more tactical flexibility. Should Gareth Southgate stand down as manager? Has he earned the right to make that decision himself?

Plus, looking ahead, some big decisions need to be made about some of the personnel on the way towards 2026 in the search to become a better 'team'.

With the Premier League TV selections confirmed for August and September, Suj and James discuss thoughts for Sky Fantasy planning and assess which clubs Fantasy managers will 'need' coverage of and which clubs will be 'wanted'.

(Yes you can listen to this at any point in the next month if you want to revisit it!)

There's a surprising lack of single gamedays in the opening 6 matchweeks, James details why this is the case and what it means on early transfer count usage; there's discussion on potential early gains and why some players will appeal over others as we approach the season kick off on August 16th.

Suj and James discuss the four Quarter Finals at The Euros which included another nervy game for England as they beat Switzerland on penalties. There's detailed conversation on Saturday's shoot out victory against The Swiss including positives, negatives and selection dilemmas for Wednesday.

There's coverage of the three other ties as Spain beat late Germany in extra time but showed vulnerabilities in doing so; France got the job done against Portugal on penalties but once again didn't inspire and it's The Netherlands for England next after they came from behind to beat a spirited effort from Turkey.

And there's discussion on Euro Fantasy, how the weekend went and tips for Semi Finals selection.

Suj has arrived in Portugal and joins James to discuss the recent wave of swap deals involving Premier League clubs which some may describe as collusion to beat Profit and Sustainability Reporting ahead of the June 30th financial year end. But has anyone actually done anything wrong?

There's details on the swap deals that have been done, the importance of pure profit and amortisation for accounting purposes, whether the 7 identified clubs in danger of breaching PSR feel they have done enough, the surprising name that became desperate to sell and if anyone has breached when we will find out if they have.

Plus, the movement of promising young players assessed, why the Premier League will assess if Fair Market Value trading has been adhered to and the future of PSR.
