This forward thinking national curriculum addresses issues that many countries have grappled with such as the role of assessment, motivation, socially just curriculum, life time physical activity, and issues of the "sportification" of PE and the role of fitness testing.

Dr. Ann MacPhail (@AnnMacPhail1) comes on to discuss a BERA scholar lecture she published in Sport Education and Society. It covers the Three A's in Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy and is a great exploration the cycles of careers in our field.

Is inclusiveness and integration the same? How do students with visual impairments feel about integration in physical education? Well...Dr. Haegele asked them. This is a fascinating study from the field of adapted physical education and brings up some important concepts we all should re-consider. 

This paper: “Understanding the Inclusiveness of Integrated Physical Education from the Perspectives of Adults with Visual Impairments” was recently accepted for publication in Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly. We predict it will be published in 2020

Justin A. Haegele, PhD, CAPE, is an assistant professor in the Department of Human Movement Sciences and teaches in the Health & Physical Education program area. His research and teaching interests are in adapted physical education/activity and inclusion. In addition to his work at ODU, he also is the co-director of Camp Abilities Alaska, a one-week development sport camp for youth with visual impairments. In 2012, Dr. Haegele was honored as the New York State Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year. More recently, he was selected as the first recipient of the David P. Beaver Adapted Physical Activity Youth Scholar Award, awarded by the National Consortium of Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities (2015).

This argumentative paper discusses the use of sport based recreation as a tool to address social inequity. The paper blends a lot of what we discuss in HPE and crosses over to public health and beyond. A great look outside of our field to see what scholars are doing in Europe outside of the HPE setting.
