Stewart White is a watercolorist from Baltimore, Maryland. He is one of the rare plein air painters using the medium of watercolor. His background in architectural illustration adds to his skill set and his paintings reflect his knowledge of good design. Stewart's paintings have the pleasing combination of good structure with a painterly style. He is a transparent watercolorist in the purest tradition of watercolor painters. Where as watercolor expresses its nature as fluid oil paint is stiff and seems to want to be expressed in a thick and buttery way.
He studied at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and after serving 3 years in the US Army he returned to graduate from UC Berkeley with a BFA. He works as an architectural illustrator and designer. His watercolors both in his architecture illustrations and in painting competitions have won him many awards. In June 2009 he was invited to teach a workshop in Paris on his techniques for architectural watercolors to an organization of architects. He continues to teach in Paris every other year.

"I refer to my work as sophisticated chaos, where a structured drawing gives way to an expressive painting to create a beautiful mess. I'm drawn to scenes of complex forms, finding beauty in the streets, scaffolding and grit of everyday life. I strive to express how something feels as much as how it looks, and to capture the physicality of a subject with bold brushwork and rich textures. My paintings have a basis in the representational but often dissolve into varying levels of abstraction. My approach is as much a part of the work as the subject, with marks, scratches, drips and splatters all becoming part of the final piece, creating a very physical presence. "

"John paints nature in all its forms, choosing to emphasize those aspects that create an awareness of the environment. Toward this end, his landscapes exhibit the sensitivity that urges the viewer to appreciate and recognize the spiritual aspects of the Earth and actively participate in its protection and preservation. John believes that art is form of communication, so he places a high value on the inspiration behind the creation of a painting. In this respect John encourages young artists to look within themselves for the most beautiful vision that they as an artist can conceive of and courageously offer it to world to enrich and raise the consciousness of the viewer. This meditative process guarantees that the artist will produce the most sublime art of which they are capable."

"As an artist my first response is to draw or paint to communicate my ideas. I strive to tell the story through pictures my words can't easily communicate. The act of painting is a process that involves all of the senses. I immerse myself completely into the subject in order to draw out all of its character and hidden meaning, hoping if I observe it closely enough I may glimpse the true essence of what makes it special."

Beth's painting style is unique, looking somewhat like a watercolor, or is it an oil painting? She uses Cobra Water Mixable Oil Colors in thin washes with a limited tonalist palette, using unconventional tools such as squeegees and qtips along with her brushes. Her representational paintings have been described by critics as evoking nostalgia, like that of an old sepia toned photograph, often with just touches of color.
She is highly influenced by painter Andrew Wyeth, and her subject matter is often what she refers to as the "vanishing landscape", including finding beauty in buildings, barns and old towns of a time gone by and often beyond their prime. Old barns, a Victorian farmhouse, a back alley, a fire escape, an old mill, or an old split rail fence down a country road are common subjects. Beth paints primary on location to catch her subject at a specific time, especially how the light and shadows play on the surface create drama and emotion.

"I'm a rare native Atlantan and currently reside in Sandy Springs, GA with my wife and 3 children. In the 80's I attended UGA but graduated from Georgia State University with a business degree. I grew up working in the family business before high school and college, and after a brief career in real estate development, opportunity and unemployment collided head on so I returned to the family business to work with my father. Turns out we really needed each other and 21 great years later I am proud to run JFM! Over the years it has been my pleasure to be a part of the growth we've enjoyed here at JFM, transitioning from a few family members (but a company with good bones) to a leading industry frame supplier. I am blessed to work with such a great team of dedicated people who care about our company and customers like I do. Outside of work I am passionate about family activities, the Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and Georgia Bulldogs. When time permits I enjoy training and competing in endurance sports events, any family time, growing in my faith, coaching my kids youth sports teams, and always enjoy a great book to go with my coffee addiction."
