The Commonwealth Bank's been taken to court in a world-first case to test how banks should disclose the risks they face from climate change. Lawyers from Environmental Justice Australia today filed proceedings in the Federal Court on behalf of shareholders Guy and Kim Abrahams against the bank. They're accusing the CBA of failing to adequately disclose climate change risk in the bank's 2016 annual report. If successful, the ruling could have huge implications for how companies manage their footprint on the environment.

Derryn Hinch now wants to make all foreign-born Senators prove they're sole Australian citizens - in a move that's being supported by the Greens.

The Prime Minister's come under fire for apparently telling the US President, Donald Trump, he wasn't obliged to actually resettle any refugees under a refugee resettlement deal with the United States. A leaked transcript of the pair's phone call shows Mr Trump berating Mr Turnbull as the Australian Prime Minister attempts to get the President to stick to a deal struck under Obama's administration.

The Federal Government's battle with the university sector over proposed funding changes is intensifying. Under the changes, student fees would increase, and Commonwealth funding to universities would be cut back. In the Northern Territory, the vice-chancellor of Charles Darwin University says the plan could see that institution close down.

The Reserve Bank has delivered a positively glowing assessment of the future of the Australian economy. While slightly downgrading its economic growth forecasts in the short term, it's predicting a strong bounce-back in less than a year. But economists have been swift to condemn the rosy outlook and warn strong economic growth is far from secured.

Turkey is continuing a crackdown against aid organisations working to assist Syrians. Mercy Corps, International Medical Corp and others have been targeted. The Turkish government accuses them of assisting the Kurds. Aid workers believe this is part of a wider crackdown against civil society and fear deportation.

Police have confirmed that two of the men arrested in the weekend terror raids had tried to check-in a suitcase for an international flight at Sydney airport that was carrying a bomb made with military grade high explosives. The device was hidden inside a meat grinder in the luggage intended for a Etihad flight in mid-July. It's alleged they were working on a second device to release deadly gas in a crowded place. Police say the alleged mastermind of the plans was a senior Australian fighting with Islamic State in Syria.
