When Loan Advisor Mitzi Verlinde says she's with clients "from start to finish," she's not kidding! Because real estate never sleeps, Mitzi doesn't appear to either.
Extremely kind, knowledgeable, and no-nonsense, Mitzi is a master at finding ways to finance home dreams. Even if she's finding them at 2 o'clock on a Saturday morning.
Host Jennifer Nelson and Mitzi share one huge value in common: the work is people-first. While being available for consultation and information can mean living a 24/7 lifestyle, both know that buying and/or selling a home is a huge milestone in a person's life. And they're there to make the process easier.
In this episode, learn some best practices for working with clients without completely losing work/life balance. Then find out more about Mitzi at Crosscountry Mortgage: https://crosscountrymortgage.com/Seattle-WA-5566/Mitzi-Verlinde/.

Darci Gillespie is in the top half-a-percent of Washington realtors, and boy, is she tired.
Well, "busy," anyway.
For those who think real estate is a great way to make a lot of money without having to work very hard or very long, Darci would like to give you a realty reality check.
It's a great and rewarding career, but "easy" it ain't.
In this episode Scout Real Estate owner Jennifer Nelson and Washington realtor Darci Gillespie give beginning agents a bit of a wake-up call about the work and the biz.
"Think of it as a full-time job," Darci says. You need to have a plan and self-discipline to make it work. Explore all the opportunities, take advantage of the advantages. Network, connect with other realtors, show up, go to the office, and find a mentor.

Host Jennifer Nelson has known realtor Kelly Satterfield for the entirety of Kelly's career in the industry. She's been a total shooting star, coming in to the industry like a rocket.
Her secret? Especially when you're new to a field, it's important to remember: "You don't know what you don't know, so surround yourself with people who do!"
Coming from a career in hospitality and having done other work in customer service certainly didn't hurt — Kelly knows how to go that extra mile for her clients.
BUT
She's also very aware of the need to set boundaries so she stays healthy and avoids burnout. And she's careful to create routines and manage her time. Taking a job at a smaller firm has helped her maintain a good balance.
Listen in to this great conversation about how you can really serve your clients while staying happy and satisfied in your own life.

What does being a birth doula have in common with being a realtor?
A lot, it turns out—you're helping someone through a major life change, it's a ton of work, and there can be huge ups and downs along the way. Both can be much greater emotional experiences than the people you're helping may have bargained for. But in the end, both can be incredibly rewarding experiences.
Seattle realtor Kelly Malloy has done both, and how she's managed to connect the two is valuable learning for others in the field.
In this episode, Kelly and Jennifer talk time management, making sure you carve out a piece of the day for that activity that grounds you, learning how to do the million-and-one things you do that sell that house but aren't selling the house (mowing, spackling, walking the dog!)—how to provide "legendary service" while not burning out is a skill all its own.
And above it all, don't be an "invisible" realtor. Make sure everyone knows you do this job, and stay in your clients' lives even after you help them buy their homes.
Listen up for great insights on doing it all without losing your mind. Then check out Scout Real Estate to learn more about Scout and founder Jennifer Nelson!
Kids, big dog, cats, and 70-hour weeks practicing law — life was full but not exactly fulfilling. The family and critters were good, but the work needed to change.
And then Robin Sheridan decided to sell her house. And the process gave her the a ha! moment that real estate was something she could do and truly enjoy.
Oddly enough, focusing can often be what leads to expansion: focusing in on her skills in networking and social media and open houses gave her real success, which allowed her to grow her business.

What do you do if it's time to sign the closing docs and you discover the new owners are basically "squatting" in the house before it's officially theirs?
In this interview, and in her business, Cara Erdman is wholly and fully herself. And that's a very good thing. Like this episode, Cara is full of energy and humor.
Cara's authenticity and enthusiasm translate to her clients and definitely help them feel confident and comfortable with her. She focuses on them and their needs, not the potential sale.

According to host Jennifer Nelson, Henry Shim's success in the real estate world is, in a word, enviable. But that success was built on 80-100 hour weeks and a whole lot of hustle.
But does it have to be that way?
During the pandemic, Henry married and had a son, Theo. Wanting to be present for his family, he drastically reduced his hours. And had his most successful year ever.
How did he do it? Listen to the episode and find out! Then learn more about Henry Shim and Dimension Properties: https://www.facebook.com/DimensionRE/.
