Welcome to this episode of the podcast, where I have the privilege of hosting Kendie Schlecht, a seasoned insurance lawyer. Kendie will be sharing her expertise to shed light on the importance of reaching out to your insurance company early and often when faced with claim situations, such as disputes over coverage, claims handling, and bad faith practices. She will explain the rights of policyholders in such scenarios and the various options available to resolve disputes with insurance providers. Along with that, we'll be delving into broader issues related to insurance disputes, including the significance of carefully reading policies and seeking legal advice when necessary. In addition, Kendie will also be sharing her experience during law school and insights on practicing law and returning to school for a second or later in life career. Whether you're dealing with an ongoing insurance dispute or simply want to be prepared in case one arises in the future, this episode is a must-listen. Kendie Schlecht's proficiency and insights will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the often intricate world of insurance disputes. So, tune in to this informative and educational podcast episode.
Kendie is a long-time Irvine resident and when not at the office she is surrounded by children and dogs. She has served her son’s school as President (former) and Auditor (current) of the PTA and volunteers significant time in everything from running silent auctions to attending Traffic Commission meetings to ensure safe passage for students to and from school. Kendie is also an Advisory Board member of The Joyful Child Foundation, dedicated to preventing crimes against children through programs that educate, empower, and unite families and communities. She and her husband have been together for over 30 years and are parents to a teenage son and two rescue dogs, Rocko and Ripley. And her lifelong passion for dogs has led her to work with several local rescue organizations to foster and transport dogs in need of another chance in life, especially senior and special needs dogs.
Kendie Schlecht is counsel in the Newport Beach office, and concentrates her practice in the area of business litigation, with an emphasis on insurance coverage. Kendie Schlecht has been a civil litigator for over 25 years and during the last 15 years she has done that job in a "part-time" capacity.
Kendie has significant experience in state and federal matters involving insurance bad faith claims, contract disputes, unfair competition claims, and injury to business claims. Kendie has successfully pursued insurance companies to not only honor their duty to defend and indemnify their insureds but also to pay their insured’s attorneys’ fees incurred in obtaining benefits owed under the policies. Kendie’s work has resulted in several multi-million dollar settlements from major insurance companies.

In this episode, we explore the fascinating artistic journey of Frida Kahlo during her time in America. Having lived in Mexico for most of her life, Frida's move to the United States was a significant turning point in her artistic career. Here, she encountered new people, cultures, and artistic influences that inspired her to create some of her most iconic works.
My guest, an art history professor and author of the book "Frida in America: The Creative Awakening of a Great Artist," sheds light on Frida's journey of self-discovery and self-expression during her time in America. We delve into the personal and political themes that dominated her work and discuss how her experiences shaped her art.
Through this conversation, we gain a deeper understanding of Frida and those people and experiences that influenced her life and art. We also explore the writing process and journey of the author as she shares her experience crafting this in-depth look at Frida’s life. As well as, discuss the importance of imagination over knowledge.
Join us as we uncover the fascinating story of Frida Kahlo and the author who captured her story so thoroughly.
When Celia began traveling at the age of 16, she became fascinated with the art and aesthetic traditions she saw on her journeys. She didn't know at 16 that she would become an art historian, but these early experiences laid the foundation for her interest in studying artists who cross cultural boundaries. However, she had many interests, such as psychology, dance, film, writing, and reading, both fiction, and nonfiction. It was challenging for her to choose one major in college. First, she was a psychology major, then an English major.
Ultimately, she discovered that art history fed all her different passions. Many of her interests were connected in some way to the artists and art movements to which she was drawn. She feels fortunate to live in the San Francisco Bay Area with its richly diverse communities and beautiful natural surroundings.
Celia Stahr teaches art history at the University of San Francisco. She’s interested in women artists and artists who cross cultural boundaries. She fell in love with the power of Frida Kahlo's art in the 1980s, a feeling that has intensified over the years. Frida in America took 10 years to research and write, but Stahr never lost interest in this fascinating woman and artist.
