  • Pod Clubhouse Film Reviews: Laurel Canyon (Part 1)
    epix
Welcome back to Pod Clubhouse Film Reviews. This episode, we're discussing Laurel Canyon: A Place in Time, the new two-part music documentary on epix!!!

Laurel Canyon, directed by Alison Ellwood (History of the Eagles), tells the intimate and interconnected story of a group of musicians who created a music revolution in a small Utopian enclave in the Hollywood Hills.
In this podcast episode, Mike, Sheila, and newly inducted Clubhouse member, Jon, breakdown the music, the cultural significance and relevance 50 years removed from its creation. The hosts talk about the magical bubble these artists grew up in and how organically the music flowed from their camaraderie.

And we hope you also join us next week to listen to our breakdown of Laurel Canyon (Part Two)!

  • The I Know This Much Is True Podcast (For Episode 4)
    Photograph by Sarah Shatz/HBO

Welcome back to The I Know This Much Is True Podcast, the podcast where a rotating lineup of hosts discuss I Know This Much Is True, the six-part limited series from HBO.  On this episode, Caroline, Stef, Sheila and Mike are back to discuss Episode Four.

This week, the hosts discuss the emotional (and gruesome) flashbacks illustrating Thomas’s descent into his disease and his history of self-harm and in the present day, the ethics of Thomas’s hearing and how it played out.

With the seeming end of the Thomas subplot, we continue to discuss Dominick’s own physical downward spiral following his truck wreck incident, his painting accident at the Rood's house and missing Thomas' hearing. How far will Dominick fall?

Looking forward, the hosts rejoice at the return of Nedra and Grandpa Domenico's manuscript - perhaps we'll finally get the long awaited backstory on Dominick's father's true identity and pull back the curtain on all of the Birdsey family secrets?

Oh, and Mike posits a loopy (and most definitely wrong) theory on whether the aftermath was real or a morphine induced hallucination.

We hope you continue to join us as we explore I Know This Much Is True and the issues it raises about how we all get along in this world.  #HBO #IKnowThisMuchIsTrue

  • Prepare to Brace! - The Snowpiercer Podcast (For Episode 3)
Snowpiercer Ep 103 ph: Justina Mintz Image copyright TNT 2020.

Last episode we witnessed the night car's various delights for up-train passengers. In this one, we saw Fight Night, an example of the depraved side of what passes for entertainment on Snowpiercer. I can't wait to see what happens next week! Maybe a car dedicated to Cirque du Soleil, except the performers are never allowed to be out of character and always have to speak French (but no one else on the train speaks French). Plus, the performers have knives for hands. Should I have led with that?

Anyway, back to this episode. This time on Prepare to Brace!, Paul and Cat discuss:

    * For Fight Night, a man fights a woman - how close are we to that today?
    * The introduction of Terrance and the train's drug trade. Could Andre and Terrance end up working together at some point?
    * That creepy doctor - what's... what's he doing with the people in the drawers?

  • The Defending Jacob Finale Podcast (For Episode 8)
Defending Jacob episode 108. Image by Apple TV+. Copyright 2020.

What an ending! Ladies and gentlemen of the viewing audience, Apple TV+ has pulled off one of the great series of television, ever (at least we think so)! In The Defending Jacob Podcast Finale, Caroline and Paul go into more detail than usual. Since the finale had many more twists and turns than the usual episodes, we -couldn't- not talk about all of it!

    Stuff we talk about includes:

    * The concept of Being a good man or being a good father and how that applies to real life.
    * The trip to Mexico And why it was necessary to push Andy and Laurie to their breaking points.
    * We also try and catalog and reconcile all of our various predictions throughout the season and how close we got to the mark.

Thank you for listening to our coverage of Defending Jacob! If they come back for a season 2 (which we aren't exactly in favor of), we'll be here with more of The Defending Jacob Podcast!

Michelle Dockery in “Defending Jacob,” now streaming on Apple TV+. Image by Apple TV+ Copyright 2020.

Now that the Barbers' day in court has come, they have to keep rolling with the punches. Assistant District Attorney Neal Loguidice is no flyweight. In fact, he's laid a trap for Jacob's defense to fall right into, that sly guy.

In this podcast, Caroline and Paul/Machine Gun discuss questions like:

    * After going through everything with Dr. Vogel, would her finding be of any use during the trial?  And, she clearly has an opinion on Jacob... What else isn't she telling them?
    * If your murder-accused kid has proven to be a complete idiot online, would you leave an Internet-capable device anywhere within their reach?
    * No one at Pod Clubhouse was surprised when Matt turned out to be unreliable but was anyone in the universe shocked when we found out he fled to Florida? I mean, he looked so stable and capable of making good decisions and all...

We discuss these questions and MORE in our continuing coverage of Defending Jacob. Look for our coverage of episode 8 later tomorrow!

  • Prepare to Brace! - The Snowpiercer Podcast (For Episode 2)
Snowpiercer 102. Image copyright 2020 TNT.

This episode, "Prepare to Brace," inspired the title of our humble podcast. This episode's big event, the avalanche which blew out the cow car, has made me reconsider the wisdom of train-based arks though.

Ok, shoot me. When I heard that Mr. Wilford wanted a "significant arm" as retribution for the Tailies' failed rebellion, my mind went straight to Strong Boy. After all, the best-fed Tailie had some pretty fearsome guns in Episode 1. Also, my poor, deluded mind didn't think they'd hurt kids on this show. Even though the little girl's mom Katnissed in and sacrificed her own arm, I now have to wonder if Snowpiercer is the kind of show that WILL hurt kids. I think it is.

The way Layton spat out "Night car" in the first episode, I was expecting to see some kind of brothel on wheels. That's only partially correct. Part night club, part therapy space, part secret booty call location, the Night Car probably still holds more secrets. I bet we're back there before we know it. Miss Audrey figures into this mystery more than she's letting on.
In this podcast, we dive into issues like:

    * The avalanche sounds pretty cataclysmic for the train, so will conditions get worse on the train before it gets better? Can conditions ever return to where they were?
    * Layton has only been up-train for a day. Isn't it a little soon to pull a stunt like the one at the end of the episode?
    * OK - stasis related sickness is a pretty standard trope. But will Nikki's case drag out too long? We're ready for her to talk!
We'll be here every week with another podcast sorting out each episode's new riveting revelations!
