    Plaid Stallions 132: Demonic Movies

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak,’ they say. So what happens when the spirit is a great, toothy beastie with glowing eyes and a tail, looking for flesh weaknesses?

A topic we’re not afraid to explore, especially of the filmic variety, in the new PS ep. We’re not just talking devilry here; we’re covering Deadites, Puzuzu, Sutter Cane, and even Alan Alda??!? ‘Tis the spooky season all year round from where we stand, so dim the lights and take notes as we take a patented Pod Stallions drive down a dark lane of demons, spookiness, and Brian’s ‘Damien phase’ in this chocolatey, orange, marshmallow-filled 2nd Halloween ‘26 episode of the pod.

There WILL be an essay due! So pay attention, Goblins!

  • Pod Stallions 131: John Carpenter's The Thing

It's October, and the witching weather is slowly upon us. Or it could be the wind whipping up from Outpost 31 in Antarctica as we're about to celebrate one of the seminal horror/sci-fi films of our lifetimes: John Carpenter's 'The Thing' (1982). There's not much more to say about the brilliance of Carpenter's masterpiece (to us, anyway), but in the spirit of creepy and spooky, we thought it was well past time to show it some love. It's also one of those movies that's synonymous with VHS rentals, and if you're like us, you rented it repeatedly to study all its nooks and crannies. We STILL do to this day: it has story, chills, great acting and characters, and the most extraordinary physical effects of its time, but there's still a little nugget or two to catch the first time. We even give some time to the ill-fated 2011 'prequel' Thing, and suggest a back-to-back viewing to enhance the original even more. It's never a bad time to throw on The Thing, but October belongs to fright, so no time like the present. Enjoy! And be sure to leave comments about who YOU think is The Thing in the closing credits!Check out our new Podcast page:https://plaidstallions.com/reboot/pod-stallions/Visit the Plaid Stallions shop to help support this channel:plaidstallions.com/reboot/shopPod Stallions Facebook Grouphttps://www.facebook.com/groups/podstallions

  • Pod Stallions 130: 60 Years of Star Trek (Part 1)

Space, the final frontier. Is there a more iconic opening in TV history? (Debate amongst yourselves). For millions of people, those words became comfort food on weekends, then led to a movie (!!) with the biggest budget since ‘Cleopatra’ (!!), five more with that cast, and damn near 10 more TV series and more big-screen adventures. From a show that struggled and was too ambitious for the time, to decades of activity and revenue, Star Trek has been the gift that’s kept on giving for 60 years now.It would be illogical for us to ignore that landmark, and any excuse to talk Trek is ok with us, so here’s our little tribute to the 5 Year Mission. It’s tough to cover everything, but we do our best. Pour yourself a glass of tranya and colour some melon balls with food dye; it’s gonna be an important Trek#startrek #podcast #podstallions

  • Pod Stallions 129: Plaid Stallions turns 20

Pod Stallions is back ....in Pog form

April, 2006 was a momentous time on the interwebs, for it was the birth-time of the legendary Plaid Stallions. Brought to life by a man determined to find use out of the many catalog pages he’d acquired, it quickly became an invaluable resource for toy reference and fashion giggles. It’s since expanded its borders with a podcast, action figure releases, a toy magazine and soon it’s own cologne in a Brick Mantooth bust bottle. We might be a tad late to the birthday party, but we honour its 20th trip round the sun in a brand new (!!) episode. There’s a saying, ‘you’re as young as you feel’, and if that’s true than Plaid Stallions is still just a pre-teen, excited by all the best pop culture from the best decades. And trying to get the Spectrum channel to unscramble every Friday night. Happy B-Day, PS

  • Pod Stallions 127: Badder than old King Kong

There are Giants, and there are behemoths and monsters galore, but there’s only ONE King Kong. Well, technically, there’s one that’s been done and recycled in various ways, and as episode one for October ‘25 we celebrate the biggest ape of all.

A misunderstood creature who basically likes the ladies and wants to be left alone, Kong has loomed large since first leaving Skull Island in 1933, and we cover all the sequels, remakes, Kaiju and cartoon versions in the newest Pod Stallions.

Enjoy our tribute to the 8th Wonder of the World, the King called Kong!

  • Pod Stallions 125: Who Mourns for Doctor Who?

We know what you’re thinking. With a headline like that, we’re bound to be Who-bashing all episode, right? (You might also be thinking, ‘bout time they showed up!).

Au contraire, my friends. Doctor Who is one of the many things that brought us together as friends, and is something we love deeply. With recent news reports and all the online chatter about the current state of New Who (still considered ‘new’ after a 20-year return!) and its possible exit, it felt like a good time and good subject to explore on our return from hiatus. So close the door, hit the Tardis controls from ‘Way Back’ to ‘Present Day’ and prepare to walk in eternity as we give our two pence on all that’s gone down and up with everyone’s favourite Time Lord.

Just remember to reverse the polarity of the neutron flow before you leave.....

  • Pod Stallions 125: Canadian Movies with special guest Matt Weinhold

Back bacon. RUSH. Toques. William frigging Shatner. These are just a handful of the many gifts Canada has given the world. And dang it, they know a thing or two about makin’ movies, too. It’s high time PS celebrated them in an episode, especially since one 1/2 of us claim to be Canadian! (Note: the jury is still oot). And who better to help than our monstrously cool pal Matt Weinhold, Actor/comedian/cinephile/Monster Party Co-host and all-around good egg? All three of us sing our lists of cinematic gold from the Great White North, from comedies to horror to thrillers and beyond. Take off with us, won’t you? (Apologies, that was too easy but obligatory) Topics discussed, The Starlost, SCTV, Strange Brew, Starlog, Black Christmas, The Neptune Factor, Rock and Rule, Nelvana, Ginger Snaps, Starship Invasions, Tucker and Dale Vs Evil, The Changling, monster party, Matt Weinhold, Jason Lenzi, David Cronenberg, Shivers, Scanners, Seeing Things, Canadian TV, Pod Stallions, Pod Cast, Keir Dullea, The Corpse Eaters, Pontypool, Hard Core Logo,

  • Pod Stallions 123: Phantoms of the...Places.

Never let it be said that horror kids can't be romantic and have a soft spot for the psychotic underdog, because following up on our Werewolves October ep comes Famous Phantoms of Filmdom. You know what we mean, from Opera to the Paradise, we cover all the ways the original story has 'bled' into other adaptations and pop culture. So grab your favorite opera mask, throw on a cape and settle in for PS's 2nd October eps all about Phantom menaces. (See what we did there? Note: we won't be covering The Phantom Menace. Or Phantom Power by Super Furry Animals, there's only so much time).
PS- We know, we forgot Darkman, all Brian's fault and we'll get to it.
