This week Marcus and Henry are on the Couch together talking a few War Stories. Broking in the 80's, Cuppa Soup, smoking, alcohol and no PCs. Research was only just starting and commissions were 1.65% and went up (!) for larger orders. We talk about the '87 Crash and the best thing to happen to the stock market in the last 40 years and the worst thing. In the end we jump in the DeLorean, fire up the Flux Capacitor and ask what the world is likely to look like in 5 years time. Nothing too serious, an inconsequential filler for those who have got too much time on their hands in lockdown.

ASX 200 rises 4 to 7588. Late rally saves another record day. Early surge and then enthusiasm lost as CV19 cases and lockdowns continue. All about results and reactions today. QBE surprised to the upside, TLS announced a buyback, AGL showed why the market hates them, NAB trading update ok, but showed issues and APT slips.
European markets opening cautiously. Asian Markets lower.

ASX 200 closes at yet another record high of 7584 up 22 points. Banks the focus as CBA delivered and some. CBA rose 1.5% and the Big Bank Basket up to $190.39. Big miners were surprisingly strong despite iron ore falls. Must be the promise of dividends. Lithium stocks remain the flavour of the month with LTR up 8.8% and AXE up 15.8% on news of Chinese patents.
European markets opening cautious and unchanged. US CPI numbers tonight.

Record highs all round helped by the CBA's good results and their bigger than expected buyback. Everything you need to know about the buyback is in the STRATEGY piece in the newsletter today. The CBA is expensive but who's going to sell ahead of the tender process and the massive fully franked dividend? Similarly trapped are BHP, RIO and FMG shareholders ahead of results and dividends while the iron ore price drops 23%. We look at the charts and ask what we should do. Plenty of other bits and bobs as usual. including a touch of Cliff Richard.
