A pirate may be nothing without a parrot on their shoulder, and few self-respecting ships would not set sail without a ship’s cat, but only a Dungeons and Dragons podcast would have a ship’s goat named Sebastian. Dice and Desire is an “actual play” show, where the hosts record their playing of a game, whether digital or tabletop, so their listeners can enjoy their reactions - and in the case of a Dungeons and Dragons actual play, listen to the adventures of the players’ team of wandering mercenaries.

The show’s captain, Nate Peterson, is also the game’s Dungeon Master, and despite their being new to this almost forty-year-old hobby, he and his team have done a fantastic job of pulling a very tongue-in-cheek game together, complete with bardcore intro music, for our enjoyment. They’re playing the Storm King’s Thunder pre-published set of adventures and release new episodes every Wednesday, UK time, and poor Sebastian the Goat is just one of the digressions the Dice and Desire crew have taken from the text of the adventures.

Nate and I had good fun geeking out about the Dungeons and Dragons hobby and podcasting in general; if you’re curious as to how sheer enthusiasm translates into awesome content, this one’s definitely for you!

Sometimes, me hearties, the treasure you found at that X on the map wasn’t quite the treasure you were really looking for. Our target for this episode, Kade Moir, once co-ran a podcast network called Comic Confidential featuring shows across the geek spectrum; something right up Kade’s alley, being a thorough geek himself.

Nowadays, though, his focus is a single podcast, Believe. In each episode, Kade speaks with someone who has experienced events and phenomena that they can’t explain or even understand. Kade conducts his interviews with genuine curiosity, but more importantly, empathy, as the people with whom he speaks have often never discussed their experiences with others for fear of judgement and ridicule.
