It’s a cliche and yet still noticeable when you see people in public preoccupied on their devices, hyperconnected and unconnected.  I have taken some actions to limit such attention suckers; you can think of this as helping productivity.  I also think of it as increasing chance for meditative attention.

You can talk of the sage to the adult as the adult is to the child, so in this view, great wisdom provides great maturity.  We talk about attempt to discursively fulfill needs with consumerism.

An orientation towards consumption in our society, towards a kind of perfection.  Fulfilling needs.  Erich Fromm distinguished between “being needs” and “having needs,” and Vervaeke talks about how the market provides us with things to have when we have needs to be.
