First repeat guest! Chad Foltz and Nic Ross talk with me (in Nathaniel Hockman's studio) about the new record and what this means for net-label Modicum of Silence. Chad has been featured many times on this here site and his album may be one of my most anticipated of the year. An honesty that is rarely seen in music is riddled throughout Chad's work. Nic Ross of course is the co-founder of the label that Chad is featured on (one of my albums is also featured, find it if you want a good laugh.) I wish I had these guys determination and follow through. Oh well. Just listen to it already...
There have been several occasions that I have regretted things, not punching the President of my college in the nards on graduation day is probably at the top of the list. Or at least I should have said thank you in a snarky way. But the thing that I don't regret (that I feel most people do) is getting tattoos. I think the idea that tattoos are for hard asses and criminals is gone, there's no doubt. But when I went in for my interview yesterday in Boston (that's right world, Boston) I made sure to wear a shirt that would cover up any of the tattoos I had.
I am kind of obsessed with tattoos as an artform and a way of expression and thought there is no one better to talk to about this than Ms. Blue over at Infinite Art in Toledo. We chat after I got my "piano" finished and talk about everything, most noteably we figure out the secret to my interviewing technique, that I don't have one. Oh, and here's her website.
You know, musicians get this stigma of being stingy and this week we attempt to change that. I took a trip to musician Nathaniel Hockman's home studio, sat on drum stools and tried to figure out why a person would give away (send away in the mail) hundreds of thousands of CDs to strangers. The reason: he is an absurdly nice gentleman, he even made me a gift. Talent, brains and a gentleman, I think I'm in love. On a semi-unrelated note I just have to say that I am more than a little gracious for all the kind words, emails, voicemails, and random shouts while in public about this podcast. I just wanted an opportunity to share with people all the people who inspire me. Ok, done.
It now only occurs to me that it must look like I only started this podcast to talk to all of the people I look up to in life. This week I talk with comedian Eddie Pepitone on the TMSIWTH Phone (3-Dylan-Wise) about comedy, entertainment and Russian novelists. You may know him from his stand up, his one man show or his awesome twitter account.
* Also anyone hip to AST here is the link for the thread we talked about in the show.
Once in a lifetime a person comes along who knows everything about you, especially the things you hate and does everything in their power to be your worst enemy. My person is Theresa Martin. In this weeks episode we talk about all things college, animals, fat Kevin Smith and she forces me to use my censor button. What a jerk.
"It goes beyond just the music" - Nathaniel Hockman
So true Mr. Hockman. I sit down with the greatest band in the world Wheat for what I consider my crowning achievement. We talk about all things music and make my day. Listen, laugh, and sigh below. Enjoy.
Well, Episode 201 is (finally) up, just click on the right hand side to listen. I chat it up with Astrologer Janet Amid about my future and also share my super secret car tapes. A nice start to a new season. Also TMSIWTH has a phone number now! What? Yeah, a phone number. You can call in, leave a message or not I don't care. Whatever. The number is 3-Dylan-Wise.
Joe Beck and I travel around the streets of downtown Toledo discussing the finer things in life such as, Drunks, Waiters, and Assholes. It's weird, it's fun and more importantly it's JOE BECK! Check out the latest podcast. Enjoy Please?
My good buddy DB stops by the "studio" and we showcase our A.D.D. We play Super Mario Bros. for SNES and talk about video games, old music projects, and pot heads! We had a groovy time and also made some plans for the afternoon on the show. Plus! An Announcement!
Recently Tyler and I traveled to the great (great means super sketchy) city of Grand Rapid Michigan to see the great (great means amazing) Drew Danburry. Us and about 10 other people enjoyed one of the best live sets I have ever seen/heard. We also made some new friends and ate at a place called Zeus', a hot dog place that wasn't as epic as the name suggests. Anyway, I wanted to share the set here in case anyone wanted a taste.
