From the moments of Martin Luther King, Jr’s life, significant impacts for change and freedom rang true through his voice of truth and love. Since that time, there have been those that have talked about Dr. King’s life and referred to his actions, sometimes changing what Dr. King had meant in the first place. Who would know better than his own daughter, CEO of the King Center, Bernice King?
Bernice King led a delegation from the King Center in response to the actions that were taking place in Ferguson, Missouri. In her response, she speaks of non-violence and love. “Non-violence is a way of life in courageous people. Non-violence seeks to win friendship and understanding. Non-violence seeks to defeat injustice and not people. Non-violence chooses love instead of hate.” Bernice calls this “nonviolence 365”. She continues to share an insightful perspective about what is known as the “Civil Rights Movement”, but also shares its true identity. “The movement that was led by my father was a spiritual movement. It wasn’t a Civil Rights Movement. It impacted Civil Rights. But, it was a spiritual movement and its assignment was to Civil Rights.” Bernice continues to share her own
