Now here's a fan favourite! The Audition (more commonly known as Find The Monkees) is a great episode that's centred around the band actually being a band...there's no haunted mansions, teenage monsters, or too many girls, it's just our boys trying to hustle the band onto a TV show. We get to meet their rival bands, The Jolly Green Giants, the 4 Martians and the Foreign Agents who are also up for the TV show gig.
Paco and Jef walk you through this classic and then pull three new songs from the Wool Hat Of Mystery and place them in the ongoing list of Monkees songs...do they pull three classics or duds? Or will it be split? You'll see...or, well, you'll hear but it doesn't have the same ring to it.
The boys have gotten themselves into another jam when they show up to play a show and get roped into an experiment where the evil Dr. Mendoza wants to swap their musical brains with an android. Paco and Jef break down this episode which is the second in a row where the boys get their memories wiped and Peter cries.
And as always the random countdown brings some great songs and awesome laughs!
In the second consecutive episode Peter gets kidnapped and the boys have to pull a Monkees ruse and try to get him back before his memory is erased. With only one song in the episode this one is jam packed with Monkees hilarity and Paco & Jef also keep the random countdown going with three new songs.
Due to recording this episode on Leap Day, which is the eight year anniversary of Davy Jones' death, Paco and Jef discuss Davy and what he meant to everybody's favourite "manufactured band". He will always be missed.
Welcome to another Podcast Valley Sunday with Paco and Jef as they take you through Son Of A Gypsy where the boys get a gig that a group of gypsies thought they would get. The gypsies kidnap the boys and force them to steal the "Maltese Vulture" or else they'll kill Peter. Poor Peter. Will the boys be able to deliver the Maltese Vulture and save Peter? Will they get to play at the gig? Will Davy find a girl to fall in love with? Tune in to see! Plus we add three more songs to the ongoing random countdown!
This week we've decided to switch things up...Paco and Jef do a "live" recording while watching the episode! In this classic episode Davy falls in love (shocking!) with Fern and her stage mom does her best to break up the Monkees so her daughter can cash in on Davy's celebrity...or talent...or something. This forces the boys to Monkees-ruse one of their own and they sabotage Davy and Fern's spot in the TV talent show. Will they succeed or will Davy leave the Monkees to join Fern and her weird, mean mom? You'll have to listen to find out! (but I'm sure you already know the answer)
This week Paco and Jef dance you through this great episode where the boys sign a lifetime contract with a dance company and get wooed by the beautiful Mrs. Buntwell. With great moments like Micky walking off the set and into the writer's room and a handful of Monkees staples ("Don't do that"..."That's a little joke - about this big"..."That's a stone drag") the first episode of 1967 sets everything off with a bang! And the Woolhat Of Mystery gives us three new songs to add to the countdown...a deep cut, a fan favourite and another that's...well...let's just say, pretty historic in this show's countdown! Enjoy!
With more ridiculous Davy Jones impressions and enough hijinks to fill three Monkees romps, Paco and Jef are back to talk all things Monkees! We've finally made it to the first Peter centric episode of the series. Peter falls in love with Valerie who has hired The Monkees to play her big party. Her boyfriend, Ronnie, might be the worst human being we've seen on the series so far. The boys have to teach Peter how to talk to women so he can have a shot at Valerie. And as always P&J wrap the episode up with three new songs in the ongoing random Monkees song countdown.
Paco and Jef take you through this episode where Mike gets duped by a shifty con artist who tells Mike that he can get one of this songs into the new Joanie Jans movie if he pays $100. Once the other guys figure it out they debut the Monkee Men to set things right. (They actually only use the Monkee Men to fly to the next place where they change into piano tuners)
And the random song countdown continues as we bring it up to 33 songs... and one of these three is a big crowd pleaser! What song is it??? Do you think we'd actually tell you that here? C'mon...you've gotta listen!
Paco and Jef are back at it breaking down Monkees A La Carte where the boys lose their jobs because the restaurant they were playing at gets taken over by gangsters. They go undercover both with the police and as the Purple Flower Gang to try an infiltrate a meeting of all the local gangs as they decide who takes over what part of the city and hijinks ensue. All of this plus a new game of "What Other Band" where Paco and Jef each choose another band that they would like to see have the Monkees TV treatment as well as the on going Monkees Song Countdown!
In this episode Paco and Jef break down what was the initial pilot episode of The Monkees series, even though it came out as the tenth episode. There are many different things (the wooden Monkeemobile, Davy playing guitar, Micky's ridiculously short hair) but the boys remain the same crazy kids we all love!
