Matt Reeves director of the upcoming Batman film states that he won’t use the Johns/Affleck/Terrio script for the film. Audio platform Soundcloud, according to reports has only 50 days of financing left before they are bankrupt.
Our review of War for the Planet of the Apes starring Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson and Steve Zahn. Synopsis: Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless colonel (Woody Harrelson). After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both of their species and the future of the planet.
We talk with writer Kelly Thompson. Kelly is the current scribe for Hawkeye at Marvel Comics. When we say Hawkeye, we mean Kate Bishop (aka the cooler Hawkeye). Just wanted make that distinction as there’s more than one Hawkeye running around. Kelly will be on to talk about the adventures of this fantastic archer hero from the House of Ideas, along with all the other great comic work she’s currently writing. Kelly Thompson’s ambitions are eclipsed only by her desire to exist entirely in pajamas. Fortunately pajamas and writers go hand in hand (most of the time). Kelly has a fancy degree in Sequential Art from The Savannah College of Art & Design and has published two novels (THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING and STORYKILLER) and the graphic novel HEART IN A BOX from Dark Horse Comics. She’s currently writing HAWKEYE and STAR WARS: PHASMA for Marvel Comics, JEM & THE HOLOGRAMS and THE MISFITS for IDW.
    It was a great show!

  • Don’t Make Me Watch That Episode 12: Youth in Revolt
Welcome everyone to another episode of Don’t Make Me Watch That! – A podcast that celebrates movies and tears them down all in one sitting. Hosted by Andrew Young and Leslie Hudson, each episode presents the critique of a film from the long or recent past that one of us hates and the other one loves. Andrew and Leslie will do what they do best: fight and debate and make fun of one another. It’s all in good fun and for the love of FILM!
This episode, we take another trip to 2009 for Youth In Revolt. Directed by Miguel Arteta and Starring Michael Cera, Youth in Revolt is the story of Nick Twisp, a young man who falls in love with a girl named Sheeni Saunders, hoping that she will be the one to take his virginity. When he finds out that she’s only interested in “bad boys”, he creates the alter ego of Francois Dillinger and sets out to become the man of her dreams. If you heard our episode on Scott Pilgrim, you may remember that Leslie cannot stand Michael Cera. She believes that she could break him over her knee. This has inspired Andrew to offer this little known film for critique.
Listen as our two combatants argue the merits of Youth in Revolt and cut each other up in the process. Enjoy.
If you like what you hear, we’d love to hear from you! Send us an email at [email protected] and put “Don’t Make Me Watch That!” in the subject line. • Back Issue Bloodbath Episode 88: 80’s Nostalgia Comics
Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
This week on Bloodbath, we take you back to a magical place and time: The 1980s! Thanks to shows like Stranger Things and comics like Deadly Class and Paper Girls, the 80s have become quite the popular backdrop for a plethora of interesting stories. What is it about this particular decade that is inspiring certain creators’ comic book titles? Is it because this was time that these writers came of age? Is it because there needs to be a proper preservation of what that era was like? Or is it because everything was bigger in the 80s? What’s driving this 80s Nostalgia?
Join Andrew and Sammy as they try to get to the bottom of this by looking at the popularity of the aforementioned Image titles as well as the influx and amalgamation of 80s toy properties over at IDW. We leave no stone un-turned and no pair of parachute pants on the rack. (Sammy really likes to wear them!) (No he doesn’t. Stop spreading rumours.) This is an investigation that will find the answer to this query, once and for all! It’s all coming your way on another edition of Back Issue Bloodbath. We’re the name you can trust when it comes to 80s Nostalgia.

Andrew and Leslie will do what they do best: fight and debate and make fun of one another. It’s all in good fun and for the love of FILM!
Just when Andrew thought he was safe from the chick-flickery, he was made to watch 2010’s Burlesque. Written and Directed by Steve Antin and starring Christina Aguilera and Cher, Burlesque is the story of a small-town girl who ventures to Los Angeles and finds her place in a neo-burlesque club run by a former dancer. There’s a lot of singing and not much dancing. This is surprising for a film called Burlesque. Leslie loves it for the music. Andrew hates it for that reason as well as number of others. Soon, you will find out those reasons in great detail.
Listen as our two combatants argue the merits of Burlesque and cut each other up in the process. Enjoy.

  • Back Issue Bloodbath Episode 87: The Works of Geoff Johns
Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
This week on Bloodbath, it’s another Creator Spotlight. Who’s more deserving than a guy who’s “saved” DC Comics on a number of occasions: Geoff Johns! Whether it be his fantastic runs on Green Lantern and The Flash or his revival of Hawkman, The JSA and Aquaman, Johns’ has proven time and time again that he’s the captain over at the Distinguished Competition. His name is also synonymous with the word “Rebirth”. But hey, let’s not forget he also had a pretty interesting run on Avengers once upon a time. The guy is just a superhero-writing machine! And to think, once upon a time he was Richard Donner’s assistant on Leathal Weapon 4. Don’t blame him for that mess. His destiny was the world of comics. But the dude still rocks in the world of television and movies too.
Sit back and relax as Andrew and Sammy talk about the many comic tales that Geoff Johns has written. Whether it’s Post-Crisis, Pre-Infinite Crisis, The New 52 or the current Rebirth, we’ll be touching on most of it. Find out what books are the guys’ favourites, right here on another jam-packed edition of your favourite comic book podcast, Back Issue Bloodbath!

Vaughan with art by Cliff Chiang, this Image series is a mystery/science fiction comic set in the 1980s. A quartet of 12-year-old paper delivery girls are out in the early morning after Halloween when their small Cleveland neighbourhood is invaded by a strange force from the future.
