Podcasts – Thwipping Boys

Former Babylon 5 cynic Simon and longtime fan Jon continue their epic Babylon 5 podcasting session with Simon running the emotional gamut from confusion (IS Kosh actually a Vorlon? Does he still have affection for Londo?) to surprise (they’ve discovered Morden!) to utter joy (Talia’s gone! Hurray!) and more.

Enjoy!

– Season 1: Signs and Portents

– Season 2: The Coming of Shadows Part 1

Huzzah! It’s the second part of our epic “get a guy who thinks Babylon 5 is crap to watch the whole thing and record his reactions” series.

If you haven’t listened to the Season 1 Podcast, then get thee over there and do that by jove!

If you have, then join us for the first half of Season 2, which begins with Simon’s reactions to the Sinclair-Sheridan swap, after a somewhat awkward confession…

PS. GOJIRA!

He’s walked with giants, gods, 5th dimensional beings and aliens from every corner of time and space. He’s fought and conquered evil from the darkest reaches of the universe and the deepest recesses of his own soul. He’s an insane old bastard who delights in taking you on crazy adventures you never believed you could experience. And now, finally, his long-awaited DC Comics project The Multiversity is here.

Plus, we review the new Doctor Who!

A few weeks ago we published our thoughts on Avengers Forever, a title we were initially stoked to read. Unfortunately that excitement seemed to turn out unwarranted as we struggled not only to enjoy it, but to grasp what was going on.

Now, finally, we have completed this epic undertaking. Does the second half of the story turn things around and help us comprehend the love this story receives?

PS. Here is the link Simon mentions…what do you think?

I am Groot!

I am Groot I am Groot

I am Groot

If we dismiss Firefly, for the obvious reasons, then there’s only one real contender for the crown of best Sci-Fi show ever as far as I’m concerned – the epic Babylon 5.

The problem is, I’ve had very few people to discuss it with, because nobody will give it the chance it deserves, which is something I understand only too well, as I was that guy once. The frustration of telling people “I was the same as you – and I was wrong too” year after year has taken its toll, but I’ll never stop trying, because if any show both needs and deserves champions, it is this one.

My co-host Simon is as big a Babylon 5 cynic as they come, even going as far as having watched and disliked Season 1 once before, so I can barely contain my excitement that after 12 years’ worth of almost-constant harassment from me, he’s finally (FINALLY!) giving it another chance…

PS. Derek, I feel you man.

“Let’s read Bullet Points!” he said.

“JMS is awesome!” he said.

“I’ve heard it’s a really awesome twist on the Marvel Universe!” he said.

The boys take a look at Bullet Points, the Marvel miniseries with the slightly-more-complicated-than-it-should-be high concept of: “What would happen if Captain America never existed and for some reason Ben Parker was also killed”.
