Point Breakaway: A show about the LA hockey scene

Stanley Cup Champion Mike Richards joins Coop and O.B. to catch us up on what he is doing now, and reminisce about his time in LA, Philadelphia, appearing in Entourage the movie, and his pal Jeff Carter. Plus, Josh and Shane offer their analysis on the spitting incident last night in DC, involving Garnet Hathaway and the Ducks Eric Gudbranson.

Shane and Josh compare Josh’s experience at Sesame Street Live with his son to the birthday party for Shane’s friend’s daughter. They also explore which Kings could get value on the trade market and John Gibson’s ‘load management’ with the Ducks.

Shane and Josh talk about Ryan Getzlaf’s 1,000th game and why Getzlaf is one of the NHL’s best chirpers. They also chat about Drew Doughty and the Kings’ rebuild. Plus why did Shane try to prank Chris Pronger at Shane’s rookie party? And lastly Shane tells Josh why Wes McCauley is the GOAT of all referees.

Josh and Shane talk about Todd McLellan’s fiery postgame comments putting players on notice. They debate Erik Gudbranson’s Corsi and also if Patrick Swayze deserved an Oscar for his performance as Bodhi in “Point Break.”

Ryan Getzlaf joins Josh and Shane to talk about what playing Corey Perry for the first time will be like vs. what it was like playing Shane for the first time. Shane and Ryan share Perry stories from the minor leagues and their early days in the NHL and Ryan divulges Shane’s secret nickname. Also Shane and Josh talk Kings and opine on Adrian Kempe swallowing his own tooth.

What do we think of the Kings covering up the Taylor Swift banner at Staples Center during team games? Josh and Shane welcome Athletic editor Rich Hammond, a long-time crusader against the banner, to the podcast along with Kings exec Mike Altieri to chat about how the team made the decision to cover it. Also, Josh and Shane talk a little bit about Jonathan Quick and take user questions about a lot of Ducks topics.

Josh and Shane talk about whether the fan optimism around the Ducks is delusional or if it’s indeed merited after a 2-0-0 start. They dive into Ilya Kovalchuk’s struggles in the Kings’ system, Josh explains Corsi to Shane and also ... why did Shane not go to Josh’s son’s birthday party and hung out with Paris Hilton instead?
