"Trump is the end result of a progressive move to take our party from the center to where it is today. Democrats are going to run head long into what they're seeing with a rejection of their progressive movement and a struggle with the center," Anthony Arnold.

"We have to have a reckoning in this country with our past. But, when you get only 44% of the voters to turn out, you kind of get the government you deserve. I am not one of those to put all of this at the foot of racism. Trump carried counties that Barack carried twice. It's something else and it's just mystifying," Dick Arnold.

"Germany is a really good example of this reckoning with our past. Because of everything that happened with the holocaust, Germans are very aware of their past. So there has been this constant reckoning with its past," Sean Haefeli.

"I think the Republican immigration plan is to make life as miserable as possible for anyone who wants to come here. They just want to sound rhetorically tough and ultimately just kick the can down the road," Anthony Arnold. "The Republican party has descended into a non-fact based party. The rate at which [the president] lies is staggering," Sean Haefeli. "We've been in Afghanistan since 2001 -- so thats 18 years. The poor people there -- it's true, if we were to leave, the Taliban would probably take back control. But what are you going to do? We can't stay forever. But what Trump did in Syria is so arbitrary and and that is wrong and I think that it's going to come back and have a lot of ill effects for us," Dick Arnold."

Dick Arnold: "I was born in Martinsville, Indiana. It was a great place to grow up. We didn't have a lot of money, but their was a lot of love in the family. My father was a democrat but Mom went either way. Now, I was aware of the reputation that Martinsville had and their were certainly some hooligans in town that give rise to that reputation, but most of the folks in the town didn't know any black people. But my mom -- who didn't know any black people either, had a strong sense of right and wrong. I think I got that from her."

We have to change our minds about how we see guns versus the preservation of human life. Sometimes, we can unknowingly create a context for bad things to happen. I think that we have done that with guns. Now, its time we take responsibility for this."

I want 'nontransparent and unethical campaign' contributions out of politics. That's why I support Bernie Sanders because he wants to get money out of politics."

Alexis Morgan: "The effects of slavery are still present and hurting our country. Reparations, and I hope that it is more than just money, can be the beginning of healing, becauses it acknowledges a great wrong that has been done. There's never been a resolution to what has happened to black people in America. But I don't think this current administration has to capacity to understand how far-reaching this issue is; but likewise, I don't think the black community is really excited about reparations, either -- and I don't know why."
