The action appears to have been around Vasylkiv, which has a large military airfield and multiple fuel tanks.
It comes after Ukraine's outgunned forces held the capital for the third day – as battles continue across the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson told the Weekend Collective the denunciation of Russia has been worldwide, and clear.
“President Putin hasn’t shown a great degree of interest in that, but I think what he’s meaning in terms of the NATO alliance will certainly be shown in that the global community is rallying around the Ukraine.”
