  • Warcraft + The Witch who came from the Sea + 1900 + Flame & Citron - Eclectica #70
    De Niro, Slalom Skier

This week that skiing gag takes on a whole new complexion. In off the Shelf, we hear some things we'd never thought we would, some brilliant and others horrifying. Starting off the with sole normal duck before going full odd is Flame & Citron, the trio following that are the Witch who came from the Sea, The Night Evelyn Came out of the Grave, and Novecento [1990]. Our film of the week was Duncan Jones' video game adaptation Warcraft.

  • The Producers + 200 Motels + Expresso Bongo - Eclectica #69
    The Musical Special

We've talked about it for it a long time and this week it is here - our musical special. True to classic Eclectica form, though, it was never going to go like other musical specials. With a brief discussion of A Hologram for the King, we dedicated the whole show to all things rhythmic. Off the Shelf features 1960s rock 'n roll with Expresso Bongo, affectionately silly parody in the producers before going full Eclectica with Frank Zappa's 200 Motels and South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker's Cannibal the Musical.

  • Tenebrae + It Happened One Night + The Last Command - Eclectica #67
    Richard Briers' Tickling Adventure

We set out the director randomizer for its first-ever outing, the winner a Mr Dario Argento. With a smaller cast than usual, this week we set our sails to classic-era Hollywood with a detour to a Post-Apocalyptic British countryside. We started off with the Criterion Collection title, It happened one night, before returning with BIFA winning the Survivalist and finishing with German Silent Film The Last Command. Our feature presentation from Dario Argento's filmography is video nasties classic Tenebrae.

  • Son of Saul + Yakuza Apocalypse + Ran + Innocence of Memories - Eclectica #66
    The Biscuits for Movies Initiative

This week, everything can be justified if you're rewarded with biscuits. In off the Shelf, we had new and classic Miike with Yakuza Apocalypse, Shakespearean epics from Japan with Kurosawa's Ran, an essay film from Grant Gee in Innocence of Memories. We also have a minority report on Captain America: Civil War. The main event and our feature presentation was our first ever foreign language headline act - the Oscar-winning Son of Saul.

  • Miles Ahead + The Zero Boys + The Bride of ReAnimator - Eclectica #65
The Internet has no Dog hands

This week we absolutely refuse any second-hand gags, bad Producer Rob. In off the shelf, we had all the best stuff from the 1980s; ridiculous action with the Zero Boys and crazy practical effects and gore from The Bride of ReAnimator. Otherwise, we had forgotten Stellan Skarsgaard picture In Order of Disappearance and gaming documentary Enter the Battlefield— Life on the Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour. Our film of the Week was Don Cheadle's Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead.

  • Eye in the Sky + Tootsie + Only Angels Have Wings + Tootsie - Eclectica #64
    Criterion Collection Special

A special of a very different kind this week as we celebrate the UK debut of Criterion Collection. We have news, the question of the week and a trailer of the week all before off the Shelf becomes decidedly Criterion flavoured with Tootsie, The Tragedy of Macbeth, Speedy and Only Angels Have Wings. Our Feature Presentation is the Alan Rickman's final picture - political war movie, Eye in the Sky.

  • Midnight Special - Sam Bass & Calamity Jane + Culloden - Eclectica #63
    Golden-Era Crazy Eyes

Back to Golden Age in more ways than one this week. Our feature presentation was Midnight Special.

  • 10 Cloverfield Lane + Rocco and His Brothers + The War Game - Eclectica #62
    Themes and Roundabouts

Another go on the merry-go-round of trailers and films that never fully joined club Eclectica. Off the Shelf featured Italian neo-realism with Rocco and his Brothers, forgotten David Lean in The Sound Barrier, lesser Ealing in Pink String and Sealing Wax before closing out with the controversial Peter Watkins documentary The War Game. We also revisit some Second Run titles, Batman and an Apocalypse bunker.
