  • Zardoz + MacBeth (2015) + The Martian + Night and the City - Eclectica #39
    Evil-Penis Gun-Spew Stonehead Time

This week on the show we were besieged by an almighty armada of gremlins forcing us to re-record for the first time ever.

As a means of apology, we beefed up the show into a bumper edition. We had two films of the week, Justin Kurzel's Macbeth and Ridley Scott's The Martian. Breaking those bad boys up is Jules Dassin's Night and the City, the Town that Dreaded Sundown and the one, the only Zardoz.

  • 3 Women + Hard to be a God + Song of the Sea + The Chaser - Eclectica #38
Sid James and a Japanese Ghost Walk into a Bar

On this week's mammoth slate of movies, Off the Shelf includes the overlooked Robert Altman feature "3 Women", Raymond Bernard's staggeringly authentic adaptation of "Les Miserables", and a genre twofer - "Maggie" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and proof of the resurgent Korean New Wave in "The Chaser".

In lieu of our usual Film of the Week, we also cover the beautiful "Song of the Sea", Abel Ferrara's "Pasolini", Robert Carlyle's directorial debut "The Legend of Barney Thomson" and the almost-indescribable "Hard to be a God" - four smaller-scale features that deserve a more recognition.

  • The Visit + Everest (2015) + Pick-Up on South Street + Horse Money - Eclectica #37
    The Made-Up Words Club

This week doesn't need a dictionary… because we ARE the dictionary. Off the Shelf is top-filled with the usual oddities - Samuel Fuller's noir Pick-Up on South Street, Woody Allen's maligned Curse of the Jade Scorpion, M. Night Shyamalan's latest attempt to salvage his career (a.k.a. The Visit), and Second Run's first-ever foray into theatrical releases with Pedro Costa's Horse Money. We finish off the show's eclectic line-up with our Film of the Week - Baltasar Kormákur's Everest.

  • Cruel Story of Youth + Legend (2015) + Medium Cool + Pop Goes the Easel - Eclectica #36
    The Mixing Desk is POWER!

This week we get unnecessarily vengeful about a children's Christmas film. Off the Shelf features Nagisa Oshima's Cruel Story of Youth and Haskell Wexler's Medium Cool - both from Masters of Cinema. Meanwhile, Ryan delves into the underrated Sympathy for Lady Vengeance and Graham takes on Pop Goes the Easel - Ken Russell's portrait of artists Peter Blake, Derek Boshier, Pauline Boty, and Peter Phillips. Our Film of the Week is Legend - the Tom Hardy delivery vehicle based on the story of notorious London gangsters the Kray twins.

  • Me and Earl and the Dying Girl + Housebound + Requiem for a Village - Eclectica #35
Late Night Spooky Noise Fight Club

In a typically eccentric Off the Shelf, we look at Housebound - the 2014 festival hit from Australia, Korean student drama Bleak Night, the long lost BFI Flipside title Requiem for a Village, and the British gangster thriller Age of Kill - which may have been the result of losing a drunken bet. The elaborately titled Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is our Film of the Week.

  • Rabies + Straight Outta Compton + Run for your Wife + Salute! Sun Yat-Sen - Eclectica #34
    Dyer Consequences

On this week's show, we have a good old butcher's at 2015's blockbuster season. Off the Shelf features a typically diverse bunch of movies, with Rob covering Rabies - Israel's first-ever horror film, Ryan going back to high school with Salute! Sun Yat-Sen and Graham having the unenviable double-bill with Dyer consequences - Robert Cavanagh's Pimp and Ray Cooney's Run for your Wife. Our Film of the Week is the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.

  • The Wolfpack (2015) + Bronson + Dragon's Return + Exit - Eclectica #33
Apply some Hardy on that VVitch

Childhood memory smasher, Eclectica, Present. Our off the Shelf section has an eccentric bunch with Rob covering the Taiwanese film Exit and pronouncing everything wrong, and Ryan enjoying rage-house icon Bronson. Both movies were book-ended by a Graham twofer - a collection of shorts by Richard Massingham and Second Run's Dragon's Return. The acclaimed documentary The Wolfpack is our Film of the Week.

  • Man with a Movie Camera + Absolutely Anything + The Man from U.N.C.L.E - Eclectica #32
    Zorro's Fabulous U.N.C.L.E

This week Producer Rob introduced us to the early 1980's swashbuckling comedy Zorro: The Gay Blade starring George Hamilton. Honestly, it's real - look it up. That opened the traps up for Off the Shelf in which we feature the legendary documentary Man With A Movie Camera, anarchic zombie-comedy Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead and the much anticipated Monty Python reunion in Absolutely Anything. Our Film of the Week is the reboot of the classic 1960's spy TV series The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
