Finally, as we renew God’s call and Christ renews His promise, we also renew our relationship with Him and His people called the Church.

As Luther once said, “The entire life of the believer should be repentance.” In many ways, this is our new RHYTHM. That is, renewal is not about our commitment as much as it is about the never ending commitment of Jesus to return us to His promise of redemption and His renewal/forgiveness for people.

John 21:15-19

When God’s people experience their return and redemption, their response is RENEWAL. At the end of Deuteronomy and Joshua, God’s people renewed their commitment to their relationship with God. The Lord is always the one who moves toward us in grace and by grace filled faith we move toward Him. At POP, we have an opportunity to renew the relationship with God through Jesus. In addition, we also seek to renew His call on us as His redeemed people. Matthew 28: 16-20

What is “The Year of the Lord’s favor?” It is The Year of Jubilee! Through His Son, the Father has established a New Covenant. One that pays off our debt to sin. Guarantees an eternal home with Him forever. And foreshadows an eternal community who will be in communion with Jesus forever.

Isaiah 61: 1-3

Pastor Paul Liersemann was Associate Pastor at POPLC from Sep. 1984 to Jan. 2002. Not only is Jesus the fulfillment of Jubilee (Luke 4:21) but He is the answer to the riddle of the OT – how can God be just and the one who justifies? In terms of Jubilee, who will ultimately redeem the RHYTHM of our relationship? Do we have to wait 50 years? Am I too far from the Lord that He cannot reach me? All of these questions are answered through the life, death, resurrection, ascension and return of Jesus.

Romans 3:21-26

Embedded within the theme of RETURN is the realization that we are not right with the Lord. Indeed, the RHYTHM is broken. In the moment we may feel that our past has brought us to a hopeless present. However, because of Jesus, God’s future always overcomes our past and our present.

Jeremiah 24: 4-7

The Lord knows that our rhythm is not in tune with His rhythm. We stray and end up far from Him. But thanks be to God that He is actively pursuing people to draw them back into a relationship with Him. The RETURN of people to their land is more than simply Real Estate transaction. The return signifies that God owns it all (Lev 25:23) and that He is faithful to His promise (Exodus 6:8).
