In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 52 of owner stories with Filip from Brussels in Belgium.For as long as Filip can remember he has always been a car fanatic. From knowing all the car brands when he was a child along with the posters of supercars on his wall – Ferraris and Lamborghinis. So, when does Filip’s Porsche memory begin? Well, at around 10 years old Filip’s dad bought a 911 and his Porsche love began. His dad owned many 911s including 964, 993 and 996’s.

So immersed in Porsches as a kid it’s no surprise that Filip has now ended up with his own Porsche. Coincidently, it’s the only 911 generation of his dad’s cars that Filip was old enough to drive – the 996. So that’s when as Filip says, ‘the dreaming started’. After boring company cars Filips first Porsche eventually came a few years ago with a Guards Red 944, a car Filip owned for for 3 years and enjoyed immensely. After this came a blue 996, that went alongside his 944. Both are now gone, and Filip is driving his one owner 2001 996 GT3 in silver. Filip is a Porsche enthusiast who really enjoys his cars.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve are back chatting all things Porsche.

Steve starts the podcast by venting and wondering how Lady Godiva means money. Michael is off on a tangent. There is a bit of watch talk so be warned, but everything always relates back to Porsche. There is definitely a relationship between say Rolex demand and prices and Porsches. Would you pay a dealer premium for a watch or Porsche? Michael and Steve ponder this in today’s episode. Talking of Luft 7, Steve thinks the line between air and water-cooled Porsches may have blurred over the years.

Continuing on, Michael was surprised by the prices Porsche Classic charge for a full restoration. Is it worth it? In today’s new and classic market if you want something special then what do you do? Steve reckons the choice has been taken away from you. Michael reckons certain models are becoming unreachable. After this episode the Podcast is on a break until 5 October. Michael explains why at the end.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 50 of owner stories with Bobby from Portland, Oregon. Like a lot of us Bobby started noticing cars through collecting matchbox as a kid. These including Porsches, Corvettes and Cobras. In the mid ‘80s friends of his neighbours turned up in a black Porsche Turbo with the iconic whale tail. This was the craziest car Bobby ever saw. That was until another of his neighbours’ friends turns up in a white Countach. Seeing these 2 cars together is a memory Bobby has never forgotten. In his mind the Porsche was much sexier, and he instantly fell in love with the 911. A ‘piece of art’ as Bobby remembers it.

Although he loves cars Bobby has always been responsible with his money – he never bought a car that didn’t fit a need. Dreaming of owning a Porsche, Bobby would visit car dealers with Porsches on their lot and test drive them - keeping the childhood memory and his dream alive.

Fast forward a few years Bobby wanted something special. His wife’s car (a 5 Series BMW) didn’t ‘fix the bug’. From that moment on Bobby’s plan was to buy cars with the intention of trading them up to get to his dream car – the 911. He did just that. Bobby traded his 2013 Toyota pickup for a ’69 Camaro, the Camaro to a Factory Five Racing ’65 Shelby Cobra and the Cobra to a Porsche. Each car funding the next purchase as much as possible. Then comes the 911. Bobby has now traded up and reached his goal. Bobby, now owns and drives a 2008 997 Carrera 4S in black with natural brown leather with a 6-speed manual transmission. He could not be happier. This 911 is just how he wanted it.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 49 of owner stories with Bryan from Silicon Valley in California. Bryan fondly remembers his neighbours Porsche 911 in the early 80’s. A car he had the opportunity to ride in as a 6-year-old. This was Bryans first experience in a Porsche.

Bryan’s first car was Honda Accord, BMWs followed including the iconic 90’s 325is, a new 330M sport among others. Life happens, and Porsche was off Bryan’s radar for a while. That was until a few years ago. One day after seeing his colleagues 996 Carrera 4S Bryan started thinking about Porsches again. Although wanting a 911, Bryan decided on a well optioned, Porsche certified, 2018 Macan S as his first Porsche. A great example of the Macan, but after a short period Bryan realised what he really wanted was a 911. He wasted no time, sold this Macan S and put a 911 in his garage. Which 911? Well Bryan is now the owner of a 2001 996 Carrera 2 Cabriolet, in Lapis blue.

In todays PorscheCooled Podcast Michael and Steve are back chatting all things Porsche. Safari cars, are they really daily drivers or just great investments. Michael and Steve chat about a recent well know sale of a Keen Project Safari. Michael contemplates jumping on the white wheel trend. Would it work on his 997? Moving along the chat moves to the 992 GT3 allocation and PTS sound off. It had to be said.

Michael is concerned about his insured versus agreed value of his 997. Steve has a good tip. Michael continues the GT3 values discussion after seeing James @PorschePlatz / RSR Classics post on Porsche Forums Australia. The current estimates of 996.1 GT3’s blew Michael’s mind. Nonetheless, Steve and Michael reckon James’ estimates are pretty spot on.

Slow car fast. Has the perfect appliance (the electric car) made us relook at cars we never though were that great. A rethinking is in progress, flaws are now character traits that are more important than the highest top speed or the fastest 0-60/0-100. Steve says to enjoy and drive these cars (even with their flaws) as long as you can.

In today’s PorscheCooled Podcast Michael presents episode 48 of owner stories with Benjamin from Charlotte in North Carolina. Benjamin grew up in Los Angeles, the heart of car culture. As a kid he was into air-cooled Volkswagens. Benjamin bought his first one, a ‘67 Beetle at 14, working on it so it was sorted once he got his license. This is what Benjamin and his friends enjoyed doing, wrenching on cars and rebuilding them. A ‘hack Mechanic’ as he calls it. A passion passed on from his father.Benjamin always aspired to own a Porsche. He loved the look of the 356 and his uncle owned a black 930 and his friend’s brother’s wife drove a 911 SC, both cars he had driven in. Benjamin has always been aware how special Porsches are.

When he started working, he purchased a new VW Scirocco. This car cemented Benjamin’s love of VW’s. Many cars followed including some not so interesting commuter and family cars but also some memorable ones. These included a VW R32, ’71 Mercedes 250 coupe, ’65 VW type 3 Notchback, ’03 E39 BMW M5, ‘07 BMW M coupe to list a few.

So how did his first Porsche come about? Well, Benjamin’s wife suggested they sell their current BMW and get something that he really wanted. With no convincing needed, he decided he wanted a 993 generation 911 - air-cooled, analogue yet comfortable. At the end of 2020 Benjamin purchased his first Porsche, a ‘95 911 C2 in Aventurine Green. A dream 911 but Benjamin didn’t stop there. Since then he has also has added a 2003 Boxster S to his garage.
