Singer Trisha Covington is reinventing herself, following a renowned musical career. Fans know
Covington from her powerful debut album Call Me and hit songs “Why You Wanna Play Me
Out?” and “Slow Down”—and now, she’s revisiting a new type of sound. Following
collaborations with artists like Randy Jackson, Jermaine Jackson and Kiley Dean, the Cleveland-
born musician and mother of four is back in the studio and better than ever.
After an impressive career in the R&B field, Covington is expanding her musical range to
include genres like pop, rock, and dance. Within the past year, she’s experimented with a
variety of new records like “By Your Side,” featuring award-winning rapper Etcetera. The track
is one of Covington’s most recently produced, recorded just before the COVID-19 pandemic
struck the United States last year. It’s also a true family affair; her 18-year-old daughter Giana
wrote the song’s melody and chorus lyrics, proving that music is multi-generational.
Covington’s new single “Awesome” is out now and streaming on all digital platforms. Produced
by “Sauce “Curtis Wilson and written by Yolanda Jones. She is still working on her EP which will
be released very soon.
In addition to her various musical projects—including forthcoming future albums—Covington
has kept busy with a growing social media presence. The singer has continued to share intimate
musical moments with her fans over the last year, posting covers of her favorite songs by LeAnn
Rimes, Rihanna, and George Harrison. She’s also rebranded herself as a representative for
female empowerment, specifically Black communities and women over 40.
Social media influencing has come naturally to Covington due to her experience in the spotlight.
In addition to posting regular outfit snapshots showcasing her contemporary personal style,
she’s also partnered with a range of internationally renowned brands. Covington’s
collaborations have included Hourglass Cosmetics and luxury skincare line SMD Cosmetics,
supporting her belief that beauty is for everyone—regardless of age, race, or size. Her content
has been boosted further by working with longtime friend and imagemaker Troy Jensen, who’s
also created iconic beauty looks for Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, and more
top entertainers.
As Covington continues her artistic growth this year, she’s looking towards a future filled with
optimism and new prospects. While she creates more songs with crossover appeal, her love of
music prevails, particularly through appreciation for Black female artists like Tina Turner,
Rihanna, and Beyoncé. Covington’s drive to create fresh music for new generations—while
respecting her original, fan-beloved material—has been on the rise throughout her entire
career, and is only moving upwards in the future.
