Praying the Lauds - Your Daily Christian Morning Prayer

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - April 23, 2022 | Saturday within the Octave of Easter

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

On this Easter Saturday, Jesus continues to reveal Himself to His disciples, even if they were overcome with unbelief. Despite their hardness of heart, Jesus continues to reach out to those whom He loved. May the Risen Lord strengthen our faith and give us the humility and courage to believe and be saved.

So the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" - John 21:7a

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - April 21, 2022 | Thursday within the Octave of Easter

"Jesus stood in the midst of his disciples and said: Peace be with you, alleluia." - Canticle antiphon, Lauds

No locked door can stop the Risen Lord from appearing to his troubled friends on the night of His resurrection. He shares to them, and to us, his gift of peace... the peace that He alone can give.

Jesus calls each one of us to share His peace to a world broken and wounded by sin. As we have received, so we give.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - April 20, 2022 | Wednesday within the Octave of Easter

"Consider yourselves dead to sin but alive for God in Christ Jesus." - Rom. 6:11

Through His obedience unto death, God had exalted Him and given Him as man that Name which is above every name, that at the Name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is the Lord to the glory of the Father.

Let us offer to God a worthy adoration, a worthy expression of gratitude: we are given the grace to repent and our repentance is accepted; and every other grace we ask through the merits of our Risen Savior will assuredly be ours.

"If you have risen with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God; mind the things that are above, alleluia." - Col 3:1-2

The first eight days of the Easter season form the Easter Octave and are celebrated as solemnities of the Lord. Each day is another little Easter. The Alleluia verse is repeated throughout the octave: "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad. Alleluia!"

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - April 18, 2022 | Monday within the Octave of Easter

"This is the day the LORD has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it." - Ps. 118:24

The joy of Christ's resurrection echoes through these days of Easter. The victory that He won for us reverberates through time and space. According to Moses and the prophets, Christ was to suffer all "these things and so to enter into His glory." And what was this "glory" which Christ merited by His sufferings and death? It was His resurrection, His ascension into heaven, His sitting at the right hand of the Father, the homage of all the nations. (Catholic Culture)

LISTEN| Morning Prayer - April 16, 2022 | Holy Saturday

"Our Shepherd, the source of living water, has departed. At his passing the sun was darkened, for he who held the first man captive is now taken captive himself. Today our Saviour has shattered the bars and burst the gates of death." - Responsory

On Holy Saturday, the Church waits at the Lord's tomb, in prayer and fasting, meditating on his Passion and Death and on his Descent into Hell and awaiting his Resurrection. The Church abstains from the Sacrifice of the Mass, with the sacred table left bare, until after the solemn Vigil, that is, the anticipation by night of the Resurrection, when the time comes for paschal joys, the abundance which overflows to occupy fifty days.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - April 15, 2022 | Good Friday of the Passion of the Lord

"It is accomplished; and bowing his head he gave up his spirit." - Jn. 19:30

Today the whole Church mourns the death of our Savior. This is traditionally a day of sadness, spent in fasting and prayer. Let us try to find ways to slow down and have more quiet to contemplate this solemn day.

According to the Church's ancient tradition, the sacraments are not celebrated on Good Friday nor Holy Saturday. Instead, you can join the whole Church in praying today's Morning Psalms, wherever you are!

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - April 14, 2022 | Holy Thursday

"I give you a new commandment, says the Lord: love one another as I have loved you." - Jn. 13:34

The last three days of Holy Week are referred to as the Easter or Sacred Triduum (Triduum Sacrum), the three-part drama of Christ's redemption: Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday.

By meditating on the Gospels, we can recall to mind Jesus' actions of that first Holy Thursday, which included: (1) the eating of the Easter lamb or the paschal meal; (2) the washing of the disciple's feet; (3) the institution of the Most Holy Eucharist (the first Mass at which Jesus Christ, the eternal high priest, is the celebrant; the first Communion of the apostles; the first conferring of Holy Orders); (4) the foretelling of Judas' betrayal and Peter's denials; (5) the farewell discourse and priestly prayer of Jesus; (6) the agony and capture of Jesus in the Garden of Olives. (Catholic Culture)

Let us spend this time with Jesus in prayer and adoration for the wondrous sacrament He instituted on this day.  Join us today in Praying the Morning Psalms, wherever you are!
