LISTEN | Morning Prayer - January 12, 2025 |Feast of the Baptism of the Lord

Collect Prayer

Almighty ever-living God,

who, when Christ had been baptized in the River Jordan and as the Holy Spirit descended upon him,

solemnly declared him your beloved Son,

grant that your children by adoption,

reborn of water and the Holy Spirit,

may always be well pleasing to you.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.

It's easy to fall into the trap of comparison when we see others' ministries flourishing. Jealousy can creep in, making us question our own role. But the key to understanding our place in the Church's mission is to focus on fulfilling our unique calling. We are not in competition with others; we are each called to serve God in our own way. We must discern God's will for our lives, embracing the tasks He entrusts to us, and trusting that He will guide others to fulfill their own roles. Our mission is to do God's will, nothing more, nothing less.

When fear grips us, it's easy to become consumed by it, to focus on the source of our anxiety. But we must remember that Jesus is always there, a steady presence in the midst of our fear and struggle. He's not a distant observer, but a loving shepherd who walks alongside us, holding our hand through the storm. Our goal should be to turn away from the storm and look for Him, the source of our strength and hope.

Jesus looks at each of us with the same compassionate gaze, a gaze that understands our confusion, our lack of direction, and our spiritual hunger. When you find yourself lost and searching, remember that He offers you the same remedy He offered the crowds: His teachings. He invites you to learn from Him through Scripture, daily prayer, meditation, the lives of the saints, and the rich teachings of our Church. This is the nourishment every wandering heart needs to find true spiritual satisfaction.

Let the call to repentance be a constant invitation to a deeper relationship with God. Hear Jesus' words ringing true today, tomorrow, and every day of your life: "Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand." Don't see this as a burden, but as a beautiful opportunity to draw closer to God's love. We're all on a journey of growth, and repentance is the gentle nudge that helps us move forward, embracing God's grace with open hearts.
